Limiting factors on size of red wigglers

I have 4 bins going right now, all with descendants from my original bin. The 2 bins outside get much of the same food scraps as the indoor bins but the worms outside seem to be quite a bit fatter than those inside. Temps. outside lately have been between -2 to 11C (29 to 52F) so those worms are much more sluggish. Do they put on weight to help them deal with the colder conditions?

So what makes the worms fatter in some bins than others? Is it bin size, food source, population density, bin temperature or what? Have any of you other wormers noticed any rhyme or reason for size differences?
