Persimmon are an under planted fruit. I planted one a couple years ago. How big was yours when you planted it?

Interesting 'Fuyu', only two seed, is it self-pollinating? You might want to think about staking it, I know that you would hate to look at it in the morning and find varmints have broken the branches.

Hi Ed: It was probably about 5 or 6 feet high. A bean pole tree from Southern States for about $40. I was able to fit it into my car.

Hi Sam, I don't really know anything about the sex life of Fuyu. But many of these seem to have a few black, thin seeds (probably not viable) with an occasional plump seed. Fuyus are self-pollinating, so no need for another tree. But there are probably numerous persimmons in our region as there is a high Asian population who LOVE their persimmons like I do! So that maybe why I am seeing seeds.

One can eat these fruit before they turn yellow, more crunchy then, like an unripe pear in texture, but I prefer them more ripe, then more like a cantelope.

I bought a few Fuyu persimmons from the grocery store yesterday, they were pretty good, no seeds at all. $1.95 each, so you've got about $200 worth of fruit there. ;)

There's a house up the road that has what looks like a 'Tamopan' persimmon in the backyard. It's loaded every year with huge fruit. I'm thinking of ordering one of those this year since it looks like it makes a decent shade tree.

Another envious person here. Have killed 2 barefoot trees, 1 rooted plant. Planted a 4th one on a raised bed and while it looks ok, I don't see new foliage as with plum and peach I planted at same time. I tasted persimmon from a friends tree and was totally in love

from a few years ago. I note that IME the most beautiful and largest fruits can be watery and lacking in taste. Unlike other fruit trees no disease problems, no spraying needed. Persimmon won't fruit in UK.
