I DID IT. Bought a Brand New "old" Miele vented dryer

Ok...if you are like my spouse, you will ask WHY? and WHAT in the hell are you going to do with it? LOL
It was bought brand new (I called Miele in NJ, and gave them the Serial # to verify the seller's story) in 2006 from an authorized Miele retailer in Los Angeles, CA. Owner never installed, never used (reasons they gave were vague and a little "off") and the whole thing seems a little fishy and strange...but where they got it was confirmed by Miele. Everything is there...manuals, vent hookup adapter if needed, tools, manual door opener..... It needs a good wiping down, since this is the "fancy, expensive" real stainless steel model it is smudged and sticky and dusty....but the inside and the ducting are showroom new.
Super Excited. Do not know why or where or WHY, LOL....but since Miele does not make a vented dryer for residential use anymore, I could not pass this deal up. And man...what a deal it was! Took me 1.5 hours roundtrip to go get it. Happy as a clam. Well, until we hook it up tonight to our 220 and see if it works. Ha ha ha ha! :)

Help Me Plan Rough-in for New Miele Washer Dryer
Comments (7)Thanks all for posting. I have stalled out on the remodel but will be back in action this next week when my carpenter can start. I have a new carpenter coming to appraise the progress of the job and start next week. Long story, but this new carpenter is actually the one I wanted originally but not unavailable so went with someone else (who didn't work out). Here is a plan view as asked for, and an elevation. The two walls that create the corner where the W/D sit are both load bearing walls. The blue square in upper left corner is the Miele W/D stack. The gray square to the right of W/D is the cabinetry and where I plan to access the shut off valve and dryer venting. These utilities will be in the back wall accessible through the shelving inside the cabinet: This elevation shows cabinets to the right of the W/D and will have the shut off valve inside the cabinet, reachable through the shelving. This elevation rendition is not current. Instead, I plan to have doors above counter height, and have the below counter area open, without a door: Shut off Valve: I have a manual shut off valve with the drain hole (all in one box) mounted by the plumber. This will be easily accessible from the side of the set, inside the cabinet. Hoses: I have the Floodchek hoses on site and ready for installation. Overflow Pan: I was thinking of a overflow pan such as this one I have linked below. It has a 5 gal capacity and has a 24x24 outside dimension. Anti-Vibration: I still have not made a platform for the set but was thinking of 2 plywood 3/4" sheets with a sandwiched mass loaded vinyl sheet in between as recommended by Mongoct on the bathroom forum. Otherwise the anti-vibration feet that Deke mentions might work and a lot less trouble. I have see some anti-vibration feet on the Grainger web site for heavy machinery. I might try those. I may not be able to place it in the wall as the studs are in the way of the joist space for the ducting. If I can have the carpenter frame out the stud wall for a dryer vent I will. I want ridged venting, and have it accessible to the side of the dryer (not behind the dryer). If this can't be done within the wall space, I will have to put a hole in the floor in front of the wall for the venting, concealing it behind the cabinet. though this will make it vulnerable to bumping with the laundry basket that I plan to keep in the lower area below the counter. It turns out that the Americans make washers and dryers all wrong. The Europeans make them much better but they take twice as long to do clothes! I don't know about you, but whether you're an Apple fanboy or an Apple hater, when the guy who brought forth the iPhone and iPad is more blown away by a *laundry appliance* than any recent gadget, that's quite an endorsement. Comments (40)@Alex and Larsi, thanks for the great info! I hope you don't mind my hijacking this thread. Sadly, I need to stack. I agree, I hate to spend that kind of money on a dryer. Part of the issue is that my current Frigidaire pair is literally jammed in the laundry closet. And it's small for washer/dryers these days! Add that with my dryer being broken, I'm looking at options. Of course the most cost effective is to repair, which I will anyway (and forward to a family member) and jam it back in and hope it doesn't need any repairs until my back and shoulders heal, lol. Or replace now with a set that fits better. I'm on the fence. Is a condenser dryer shrink cotton polos on low hot, or just hot because it's a closed loop? What are average times for say jeans and towels? Or polos and chinos on low heat? The washer is my dream. As a massage therapist, I buy a washer based on how high the temp gets for getting massage oil/cream out of my sheets. Being able to process quickly will be great too. Comments (9)Thought I'd add a quick update - the error has not returned yet. I got the error light the first cycle I ran after the repair folks came, and possibly on the load after that (can't remember for sure), but in the last 4-5 loads the cycle has been finishing up properly. The Miele repair guy actually gave me a call on Monday and wanted to know more about what was happening since he saw that I have another visit scheduled for this Friday. He thought it might have been a stored error since it happened right after they left and then appears to have worked itself out. I'm going to be running a couple more loads today and tomorrow and will cancel the service call if the error doesn't return till I see the Filter/Vent light again. Overall relieved that this is the case, but half expect the error to return after a few more loads....See More
