Vulgar, indecent, illegal (though probably is), don't apply to a child, but filthy, disgusting, unsanitary are not out of range for this, um, unbridled "activity", imo. Speaking of perspective -- now that we know how acceptable this is, and to mothers of the many, many young children around -- can you imagine just how much of this stuff is around? The multiplier effect is not a pleasant thought. That's why there are laws for dogs. It is filthy, disgusting, unsanitary. And it smells. At least you asked, ms-thrifty. I do take responsibility for that - I have insurance, my insurance company says I must be responsible for installing window locks, and alarm. But I know I could be robbed, and I have been. It would be irresponsible of me NOT to make some preparation for a bad event. "I never have heard anyone say, "You have to take some of the responisibility for having had your car stolen. What made you think nobody would steal a nice car like that?" I am responsible for where I park it...for having it insured etc, I drive a boring car that nobody would want to steal. These are things I have done to lesson the chances of me becoming a victim. If we are responsible for our behavior, surely, in the terrible event we become a victim, we will move through the trauma process a lot more smoothly and eventually end up in a place of forgiveness. If we think of ourselves as a "victim" then how do we get over the trauma ?

Kroopy - I don’t think I’m the one taking that phrase “my kids are #1” literally, I think it’s the parents that use that phrase to justify dumping their SO whenever their child snaps their fingers. I don’t think any reasonable person is going to be upset if you have to cancel a date because a child is sick. However, using that line every single time your child has a temper tantrum and doesn’t like that you’re giving someone else and not them your undivided attention 24/7 is wrong. You’re going to raise a child that thinks the world revolves around their every whim and not only does that hurt your relationship with your SO, it’s also harmful for the child as well. What raises a red flag for me, is a person that is always proclaiming their kids are #1. I mean, if you have kids you don't have to remind anyone your kids are important, that goes without saying. I've never had to tell my BF that my kids are #1 or that they come first. In the two years that we've been dating I've only had to cancel a date one time because something came up with my kids, and I never had to justify myself to him. And there's been times when my BF and I had plans and my daughter wanted me to take her somewhere at the same time. I had to explain to her that I already had made plans with my BF and I would take her the next weekend where she wanted to go. It's really all about balance, which I'm sure anyone would agree is reasonable. To unilaterally say my kids come first, all the time, is just not reasonable or realistic and it seems the ones that are always saying that line are really just using that line to make their partner feel guilty for daring to ask that they give a little attention to the adult relationship. It’s just something for the OP to look out for. Like you said, it may apply in this situation, it may not, but the OP should keep in mind what is reasonable and not feel guilty for asking that her BF put her first some of the time as well. Thanks for opening a new topic. Your issue was completely different from the other one plus now yours will get full attention. Many people here won't look at a St Augustine topic. So... Your sod dried out on the pallet. See it's just the edges that are bad. The good news is that it is likely just dormant. The other good news is that you have Kentucky bluegrass, so it will recover by itself. You don't need to reseed. Or you could call the people who put it down and have them replace those few pieces that browned. If this is what you're going to do, don't wait around, because the grass will be growing into the soil making it a little harder to replace. Is your soil soft and soggy after the hour of watering? That seems like a really long time. Normally what we tell people is to water just enough to moisten the underlying soil such that it never gets saturated or soggy. The method is to water for 5-10 minutes at breakfast, lunch, and dinner times. As soon as the roots knit into the underlying soil you need to back off on the watering frequency and go up on the duration. By the end of the summer season you should be watering 2x per week at about 1/2 inch each time. Summer is a sensitive time with new roots. Then next year you can start with the following watering for mature turf. Watering: Deep and infrequent is the mantra for watering. This is for all turf grass all over the place. Deep means 1 inch all at one time. Put some cat food or tuna cans around the yard, and time how long it takes your sprinkler(s) to fill all the cans. Memorize that time. That will be the time you water from now on. My hose, sprinkler and water pressure takes 8 full hours to fill the cans. Your time will likely be less. I like gentle watering. As for watering frequency, that depends on the daytime air temperature. With temps in the 90s, deep water once per week. With temps in the 80s, deep water once every 2 weeks. With temps in the 70s, deep water once every 3 weeks. With temps below 70, deep water once a month. Note that you have to keep up with quickly changing temps in the spring and fall. This deep and infrequent schedule works in Phoenix and in Vermont, so it should work for you. The reason for deep and infrequent is to grow deeper, more drought resistant roots and to allow the soil to dry completely at the surface for several days before watering again. If it rains, reset your calendar to account for the rainfall.
