I'm with bestplantmom on this one. Much too much precision and nothing loose and free like the Maine coast gardens I grew up with. But I do understand that you have to make a client happy. As you said, the earlier definitions of gardens mean they are controlled places per the image in one's brain, not necessarily what happens naturally. Overall, there is a specific style here, very linear and void, and it that suits the client, so be it. Just not for some of us. Thank you for your Garden History Class, and best wishes.

I love this "garden" and the landscaping that created it. There is a tranquility here in the minimalist approach that breathes calm and blends perfectly with the house. This was well thought out and a monumental task. I also love the stategic placement of color. The stonework is wonderful. To me, as if it has been there for hundreds of years. The photographs are lovely and this was a beautifully written article. Thank you for sharing.

I look at this project and get a real appreciation for scale. The use of appropriate and timeless materials seat the design in tradition. Continuity and repetition of elements also encourage the eye to flow out from each vantage point. Most people do not comprehend proportion of spaces outside as they relate to and balance built verses existing features. Well done!
