Sycamore Leaf-out Halted

I purchased two 2 1/2 - 3" caliper B&B London Plane Sycamore trees from a local nursery a couple weeks ago. They were grown locally (50 miles) and were beginning to bud when we planted them. The trees look healthy and seem to be doing fine, but the leaf-out as stopped. The leafs are still there, but not growing. Does anyone have advice besides waiting to see what happens?

was it dug for sale ... or already balled???

if so.. extreme shock at the point of budding out ...

did they plant it.. if you.. how did you get it home ...

where are you ...

and finally .. what does the seller say

where are you.. and how cold has it been getting at night ...

I am in Liberty, Mo. I doubt if was dug and suspect it was balled before movement from Ottawa, KS (50-60 miles). Arrived in a covered van, I loaded on my flatbed p/u, laid flat for the 2 mile trip planing location. Put in the ground immediately and had watered that night and two days later. Heavy rains since, so no watering. Leaves look exactly like they did when I picked them up from nursery. Have not called nursery. Thanks for the help.

The only things that have started to leaf out here are a Meteor and an Evans cherry that I planted last week. The lilacs buds are swelling, so it won't be long for them, but most of the deciduous trees at my place won't leaf out until late April, early May. The Kentucky Coffee is always the last to leaf out. Hi all, I found this to be a rather pertinent topic for me. I had planted a 2" caliper Nyssa Sylvatica last June, and it did alright last summer. Now, after the brutal winter we had, this tree has not leafed out yet (here in north central MA). I did some test twig cuts, with unfortunately some dead, and the other cuts showed some pale greenish-yellow twig centers... I'm nervous, and wondering if this tree has died? The buds haven't really filled out yet... May7th. eek. Fortunately, My American Sycamore hasn't leafed out yet either, and usually won't until another 2 weeks from now, which is usually my last tree to leaf out. Is there still hope for my Tupelo?

Been a very nice Spring so far. All too many Springs we have coastal fogs, mist, and drizzle and depressed temps because of the still frigid Atlantic. But this year we've had unbelievable stretches of crystal blue skies and occasional high heat (92 F highest so far). Locally, the cold front will bring highs down into the 60's and low's into the 40's for the extended. So not worried about frost and assuming the threat is over for the season. It has been a bit dry of late--but this followed about a foot of rain in March and a hurricane-like nor'ester. Last night's rains helped on the lawns and recent plantings. Here's to "normal" April weather--let's see how long that lasts!

It should be ok in the long run. In the future you could always just cut as much as you can from the container and just plant the pieces left on the roots with the tree. The tree will send out new roots in time if the area in which you planted it is satisfactory. Sycamore's are REALLY tough trees. It might lose its leaves from transplant shock but it should come back with enough watering.
