What I've seen is short pieces of tack strip nailed next to the tile, leaving a small gap. The carpet is stretched, hooked on the tack strip, cut, and tucked into the gap.

Schluter Schiene is available with a perforated anchoring leg which allows it to be curved as needed. It would be installed under the tile and the carpet would tuck to the profile instead of the tile. Many a carefully cut curved tile have been chipped by carpet being tucked.

We have berber carpet - it is very stiff - do you think what you described will work with berber carpet?

Your installation looks beautiful! I went to Home Depot and bought a molding - the molding I bought is in the picture. Is it the molding you talked about? I just cannot see how the molding I bought would work in my case!

We will use ceramic with the look of the wood (as shown in the picture) - need advices for 2 things:

- what is the grout gap I should use - 1/32? 1/16?

- Should I have it installed diagonally or just straight?

The curve where the carpet and the ceramic (once installed) meet is shown in the picture - any advice on how to make the transition from my gerber carpet to the new ceramic looks beautiful is greatly appreciated.

No. The piece is Schluter Shiene with a perforated edge. You will not find it at a box store. You need a professional flooring store. Because it's a berber carpet you may want to consider a vinyl snap in. Again not at a box store.

The style of weave on a berber does not meet well at flush transitions. It also doesn't hide imperfections in the edge of the tile the way a thicker pile carpet does.

The piece that Eastern Tile mentions can be curved. The one in your picture cannot. With the berber and the curve, it's going to be a challenge to make it look decent.

The best bet would probably be to find a carpet workshop, cut the curve in your carpet, bring it to a pro and have them bind the edge. Install the pieces of tack strip right next to the tile, run the pad up to it and tack the carpet. You might even want to do the carpet first, considering how hard it could be to get it stretched perfectly to the right spot. Then tape the edge and cover the carpet while the tile is installed and grouted.

I do wood and can't comment on grout width.

Get rid of the carpet entirely. Just put down a round or oval rug if you want curves. Better resale. Easier to install. Less costly. Easier to have cleaned.

This is our basement. My daughter is moving back home after 6 years in college (have never experienced what an "empty nest" feels like - LOL ) - We are fixing up the basement for her - She is afraid that all tiles would be very cold. The entire basement has carpet for the last 24 years but the water came in through the windows during the last big storm so now we try to replace the "potentially can get wet" area with titles (about 1/5 of the entire basement). We try to make it look artistic .. hence the curve comes in the picture.

Will go to the local professional flooring store(s) and see if they have this.

That's an even better idea. Tile wall to wall and put an area rug on it in any shape you desire. Problem solved.
