I don't and never will own a pair of crocs.

Was warned that you can easily stumble with them, and I don't need another fall.

Friend fell leaving the gym, wearing crocs and broke her shoulder. She threw hers away.

Are they genuine Crocs or "look alikes"? I have not noticed an odor with mine when new, but maybe mine have been setting in the open in the store for awhile.

I haven't noticed a smell in them. I just bought a pair of the lined ones a few days ago, but they are still in my truck.
I will check tomorrow and see if they smell.

I fall a lot. Usually my falls are in the winter when I am wearing rubber boots...my toes are longer and I forget to pick up my feet, and I trip. I also do dumb things...like the other day I was brushing Piggy Sue, my pet feral hog. She was laying down and looked so comfy, I sat down on her like a sofa. She stood up suddenly and I fell over and onto my recently broken wrist.

Except for rubber boots around home in the winter, when doing outside chores and it is muddy, I wear Crocs every day and no other shoes.

I love Crocs and never has a pair that smelled.

I wear my crocs around the house or gardening. They don't smell at all. Anneliese, maybe you could put the liner into a slightly warm dryer for a while to get the smell out. If nothing changes, I'd send them back for another pair.

The shoes I trip in the most are my night slippers. Especially going up stairs the toes snag the step. I rarely wear them now.

I wear Crocs all of the time and have never noticed a smell in either summer or winter lined ones. Smells usually get my asthma going and I would notice.

Thanks, I guess I just let them sit around a few more days. They were from the official Croc store but were packed in a plastic bag, so no airing out beforehand.

I personally live in Birkenstocks and have no experience with Crocs.

My friend gave me a pair os surplus crocs a year ago last summer, I think it was, and I wore them quite a lot, and didn't notice them smelling, but then, I don't smell too well. That is, my nose doesn't enjoy the greatest reputation for being able to notice various kinds of aroma.

The crocs might not be bothered about travelling around in winter, though I wonder whether they might be inclined to crack ...

... but my feet are part of that equation, and having the crocs do a poor job of repelling snow makes them somewhat unhappy ... and as you know, from the names on some socks, "Happy Foot" is a situation devoutly to be desired, especially in winter.

How about running them through a wash ... though after such treatment, one could scarcely call them, "new" ... but is one required to enclose such a certificate with Christmas presents?

Mine never gave off an odor. Maybe something happened to them at the store? Or some one purchased them and then returned them. (I once unfurled a blanket at Homegoods and found a cigarette burn in it.)

I would exchange them and explain why.

I bought a pair of the lined ones (Mamouth, I think the name is), anyway they came in a plastic bag, but no odor or smell to them. Try spraying Frebreeze around them and see if that helps.

I wear Crocer Knokers from Tractor Supply and have not had any problems with smell. I do wonder how the knock offs compare in size to the originals as I saw an online sale for the real deal last week but I have never had the real ones so don't have the size for the originals.

I love my Crocs. About a year ago I swore I would never wear anything else. They are just the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. But last year, a couple of weeks before Christmas, I slipped in a wet spot on the floor of a grocery store and dislocated my elbow. I didn't directly blame the crocs at the time. But since then, I have had several "almost" falls when it was raining and I was wearing my crocs. The area outside my daughter's office is slate and after I took a couple of steps onto it in the rain, I was slipping and sliding around and scared myself nearly to death. And just last night when DH and I went grocery shopping and it was raining, I had to be extra cautious on the way into the store because I started to slide. And I was not wearing old worn out crocs.

So, I have decided that when it is raining, they are not the shoe for me. But I think I am going to leave a pair at work so that I can wear sensible shoes in the rain and still be comfortable at work.

I do have one pair of the lined crocs. I never noticed that they had any odor about them, though.

I own multiple pair of genuine Crocs, both lined and unlined. No odor here. :-)

I love my Crocs and wear them year round. No odor problems here either. At one time, I lived in Birks but found that I wore the sole out in a month or so of use and they were expensive to get fixed. I have Crocs in many colors (Brand name and others) and have never worn through them. Don't have lined ones but use socks in the winter. Don't care how they look - it's comfort that I go for. Unfortunately, they do slide on wet surfaces. That can be a major downside figuratively. They do a slide on unseen cat barf but the good thing is they are easy to clean!

Not to derail the thread here but since everyone is now talking about slipping on wet surfaces in the winter, can I suggest YakTrax? The neat thing about them is that they can be worn on any shoe.

They work on Crocs. I have the Crocs without the holes in the tops for wearing in the snow. They are completely water resistant unlike leather which soaks or shoes with seams that lets water seep in.

I wear a pair as houseshoes.

They are great to wear in Disneyworld ~ lots of people wear them there; in fact, that's where I first learned of Crocs.

Yak Trax didn't work for me. I found they slipped off my boots and I needed to sit to put them on again. They also were slippery to walk on if I went into a store and most stores didn't have a chair at the door so I could take them off when I entered. So I gave up. Neat idea though and I wish they had worked. This last year, after a fall, I tend towards panic attacks if I see ice. I just freeze and can't move forward.

I'm sure the store would want to know. Especially if its the official Croc store. They don't want a problem product out there any more than you do.

A simple phone call should get you another pair in plenty of time for gifting.

I have the fur lined ones, Wooly Mamouths. They also came in a plastic bag but never smelled.

Just so the OP doesn't think she's imagining things; YES, I think Crocs smell. I bought a pair and returned them because of the odour; not to mention they made my feet look three times their normal size (and I'm a petite person - so not a 'good' look). I find many shoes smell these days - it's the manmade materials, I think.

I can't handle scents of any kind anyway, so I'm very sensitive and aware of odours.

I LOVE crocs and have never noticed a smell. But yep, they are NOT good in wet weather, very, very slippery. So I can usually only wear them around summer here, when I know for sure it won't rain.
