Im having a hard time coming up with a theme on this somber day.

How about Remembrance? Post a picture of something that brings back memories for you.

Once again, rules apply! Hope everyone has a day of kindness.

Last Friday. I guess they were testing the lights. I was heading back to Astoria in Queens from ”the city” which is what anyone in the other four boroughs calls Manhattan. Taken from a moving car going over the 59th street bridge.

A very heavy day here today.

American Gothic. Not my favorite but one I was very familiar with. I remember walking into the room at Chicago’s Art Institute and there it was, on the wall and not on a page in a book.

Called ’Reflecting the Braille Sky’, this represents the city’s spirit of exploration by combining space (if you look closely you see constellations) and water (the concentric blue ripples)

This is my dad. I think of him on this day, because our family had a very different 9/11/2001 than most people.

My dad had been treated with chemo and radiation for lung cancer - he had a 4 cm tumor, inoperable.

On Sept 11, he had a scan that showed the tumor had disappeared. He and my Mom watched the news unfold on the TV in the cancer center waiting room.

As we shared our good news with others, people were overjoyed - even coworkers of mine who had never met my dad. Everyone was so desperate for ANY good news, that they clutched this with both hands.

Dad's remission lasted 2 years, and he lived another year after that. 9/11/2001 was the day I got my father back.
