That has got to be the funniest cooking/baking mistake I've ever heard.

I've made cookies like that, but I didn't have as good an excuse as she did!

I remember when my daughter was teaching her fifth graders a no-bake cookie recipe. It bagan with her instruction of "Grease the bottom of the pan"

Whereupon...someone greased the BOTTOM of the pan...not the INSIDE bottom. Some people take instructions quite literally....

That's funny, but i can also see the logic in the misread! I wonder if she wondered why it didn't say 1/2 cup instead!

My grandparents went out for a while one Saturday and left my Aunt age 11, and Uncle age 6, alone for the first time, knowing they were not going to be long. They were the youngest two of ten children. Grandmother said they forgot something and came home within a half hour only to find the kids making cookies..maple cookies...asked where my uncle was my Aunt said Oh, he is upstairs getting the sheets...let me tell you she still takes a ribbing over that one. Good thing they came home when they did 'cause that old woodstove would have made short order of their kind of "cookie sheets" Now I wonder after reading about the bottom of the sheets if that is what they would have done too. BTW they both DETEST maple anything today..haha

My kids are all here today...the guys are watching football or playing chess...the rest of us are baking cookies...

Come on over. Some are out and hot...yum...and we used more than two 1/4 cups of flour...lol

My mother gave me the recipe for her fried chicken coating, but it didn't make much so I quadrupled the recipe, dunked my chicken and fried it. Came out WAY salty! I called Mom, read her the recipe and she said "OMG, I left out the flour!" I've made it since, using the flour.

When my DD was early teens, she accidently subistuted salt for sugar in a chocolate chip cookie receipe. I was at work, and came home and could smell those cookies but both girls admitted nothing. Went to put trash out and found ONE cookie on the ground and went in and asked and my DD just disolved into a bucket of tears thinking I would be upset, but I kind of thought it was funny, but she did not. To this day we talk about it.

That is tooo funny patti...my daughter made a baked appetizer dip that called for 1/2 cup minced onion.... soo she went to the store bought a jar of dried minced onion and used that....needless to say..appetizer dip was not good.

My first husband fixed brownies one time from a mix. He asked me how do you get the stuff off your hands? I asked why was it on your hands. The instructions said "mix by hand. The instructions now say mix with a spoon.

When we were first married, DH decided to bake oatmeal cookies. They looked wonderful. Great color and consistency, inviting aroma. I couldn't wait to try one. I take a big bite and immediately spewed it out. It tasted horrible, just horrible. I quizzed him on what how he made them and it didn't take long to figure out he used baking soda in place of sugar. Broke my heart to let them go to waste so we called the dog over (because the cookies cooled down to the consistency of a dog biscuit). She smelled it and then started rolling on it but she refused to eat it. Probably should have tried them on her first. Would have saved me the trauma of tasting them.

My sister had a roommate in college who had never learned to cook. She made Rice-A-Roni one night, but she couldn't figure out why there wasn't chicken in the meal like there was on the package. We still snicker about that.

There's a gal on the cross stitch board i frequent who gave her niece a recipe for something that was made with campbells soup and other things.The niece went to the store to get all the ingredients,and couldn't find them all according to her.So she calls her aunt and said i looked all over that store for a "can of Water" and couldn't find it.Auntie almost fell over laughing,as what she meant was after you empty the can of soup,fill the can with water,but the niece didn't read it that way.

Her aunt thought it was soooooooooo funny she designed a cross stitch pattern using the campbells label only added canned Water to it instead of soup.She stitched it for her niece and sent it into Country Cooking magazine and they published it.This was a few years ago.Tooooooooooo Funny.
