Want another good laugh??!!

A couple weeks ago, I was at Walmart and was comparing A-1 Steak sauce and the Great Value brand of steak sauce, and they had exactly the same ingredients, so I bought the GV brand to try it. I made roast for supper, and d-stepson and I both like A-1 with our roast, so dss puts some of the GV steak sauce on his plate and starts eating and tells me "I don't like this. It doesn't taste like the real kind." I started eating mine, and I couldn't tell a difference in taste. I told him he was just saying that cuz it was the GV kind and there was no difference. So, over this past weekend, I dumped out the last of a bottle of A-1 we still had, and poured the GV brand steak sauce into the A-1 bottle.

Last night, I made roast again. Dss got his plate (pouring the GV sauce from the A-1 bottle on his plate) and goes and sits down and starts eating. When I came out to sit down and eat, I said to dss "Justin, doesn't roast taste so good with A-1?" and he says "heck yeah." I said "Can you even believe that Jason (my dh) doesn't eat A-1 with his roast?" and he says "Nope." Then I said "Hey Justin. Remember how you thought that Great Value steak sauce didnt' taste good like A-1? Well, I poured it into the A-1 bottle and that's what you've been eating." He looks at me with big eyes and goes "What?"

Then my dh starts laughing so hard he about falls out of his chair! And we are both laughing, and he says "Tammy! I had no idea you even did that! Just before you came out here, Justin was going on and on about how he forgot how great A-1 steak sauce was! ".

That's exactly what's happening at my step-fathers work. To cut costs, they went in on a coffee-maker and Wally buys the coffee. He buys Maxwell House on sale. Lately one of the girls stopped drinking the coffee, cause she likes Tim Horton's coffee. She offered to bring in her can of Tim Horton's to try.
So he made the Tim Horton's the next day, and they asked what kind of coffee he was making. He said "you tell me". They drank it, and they all thought it was Maxwell House. Maxwell House sells for $5 and Tim Horton's $16 for the same size can.
There was a test on tv recently where generic food was poured in name brand container, just like you did.
Everyone thought the "name brand" tasted better. Manufacturers count on this as well. We eat with our eyes, and they know most people will pay more for the "real thing".
DH and I prefer a lot of generic brands over name brand.

I just did this at home with popcorn. DH thinks he needs Orville Redenbacher, but I don't like to pay the price. I bought Jolly Time or Jiffy Time or whatever it is--and poured it into the Orville jars. Last night he said, see how nice the O.R. popcorn is, it has no hulls. I said, "Oh, yes, it's wonderful." I did not tell him he's eating Jolly Time because I plan to get more and pour it in there.

That's funny. I have a two year old who like unripened tomato and, strangely, strawberries. Its been tough keeping her out of the garden long enough for my fruit to ripen, every time I turn around she has some green tomato or strawberry in her mouth, sour grimace on her face and the words Yummy in my tummy muffling through her full mouth. Funny and frustrating =)

That is one of those threads where it just evolves in a certain time and place and is hilarious because everyone who posts were on the same wavelength. If you went back and tried to re-create a thread as funny, it just wouldn't happen. We have had our share of them on the Garden Party as well. It's sure a pleasant place to visit anymore, but back in the early days, I used to wake my husband up from belly-laughter at the keyboard. Good Lordy, but we had some wild posts. About once a week, I had to take windex to the monitor and keyboard where I'd spill or spit my tea out from laughter.

Those a great! Gotta love how kids' minds work. My parents were visiting last fall when my 5 y/o DS told his grandfather out of the blue: Grandpa, sometimes I poop so big my butt cracks. My father is still laughing at that! Of all the strange things that child says, this will be "the one" his grandfather never forgets.

There's a gal on the cross stitch board i frequent who gave her niece a recipe for something that was made with campbells soup and other things.The niece went to the store to get all the ingredients,and couldn't find them all according to her.So she calls her aunt and said i looked all over that store for a "can of Water" and couldn't find it.Auntie almost fell over laughing,as what she meant was after you empty the can of soup,fill the can with water,but the niece didn't read it that way. Her aunt thought it was soooooooooo funny she designed a cross stitch pattern using the campbells label only added canned Water to it instead of soup.She stitched it for her niece and sent it into Country Cooking magazine and they published it.This was a few years ago.Tooooooooooo Funny. Wish they had Tim Horton here, do miss the homemade soups and goodies.
Anyway, do read and compare. Unless it has changed, the dry spagatti sauce from WM has no tomato product. It uses beet juice to make it red.

LOL...I know I've done this with stuff to my kids...my biggest secret is they say they don't like Sweet N Low and want sugar in their tea...Well for the last 3 or 4 years I've been putting in half sugar half sweet n low...they've never noticed and go on about how wonderful my iced tea is...that'll show'm!

LMBO! This "trick" didn't work with me when I was a kid! I don't think generic was around when I was growing up. Not even sure there were store-brands, but we did have a couple name-brands of milk. One I loved...the other I couldn't stand. My Dad tried the trick of switching...and it didn't work. I took a drink of the yucky milk that had been put in the other carton...and promtly threw up! lol No..it wasn't ruined/soured...I just hated that brand and milk..and knew the difference!

I tried that when the Dr. told the ex to switch to decaf. It didn't work. He could tell the difference right away. So, I waited a while and did a half & half mix and put it in the regular container. Then he couldn't tell the difference. I slowly increased the amount of decaf until he was drinking decaf and didn't know it. We've been divorced since 1996. I wonder how jittery he was before getting used to regular coffee again.
