This thread from the Kitchen forum was posted on the Hot Topics forum and it really is funny. It's long and the humor keeps up until the end. Read it when you have a minute.

The thread is really funny but you'll need a lot more time than a minute to get through it, and you'll be laughing out loud.
There are so many funny comments, but my favorite was one about "The Midget Widget Gidget Gadget! Designed and endorsed by Sally Field!" I wondered if she designed while flying around in her nun outfit.

Thank you for the feedback. That does explain a lot. I've never grown a melon before. The plants are in a large kiddie pool with some tomatoes and eggplant. Hopefully, that is enough for the roots. But the vines are just starting to gain some major length and size so it may be that the plant is not large enough for fruitset yet. The blossoms on the lemon cukes really are difficult to distinguish. I was staring at them for a long time yesterday trying to figure out which were females. But at least the one I pollenated the day before was, it started to grow. I pollenated an armenian cuke yesterday so we will see if it is a pollenation problem. I do see lots of bees buzzing around my garden. I found them in the squash blossoms yesterday doing their job. Ania

LOL, Vikki! At least you could find the gift cards. I've got one that's gone missing. I'm blaming it on the cat. ; ) The old woman has been rumored to have been seen in LaLa land but only the nip & tuck docs know for sure and they're not telling. ; ) Btw, that ol' broad hitched a ride to Mervyn's with me earlier today. Good thing, too, because she talked me into participating in their buy 1, get 2 free sweater clearance. That's right - TWO free! She kept reminding me how cold I get now that my skin is thinner. Like I need to be reminded! Hmph! But then she leaves the store without checking the receipt, which I've always done since I don't live close enough to just run back there if something is wrong. So, I get around the corner at Farmer Boys, order a turkey sandwich and fried zucchini, which she insists I need for the fiber (double HMPH!), and take a look at my receipt while patiently waiting at the drive through (she, of course, was drumming her fingers on MY steering wheel!). Sure enough, I was charged wrong! So now I have to go back to the mall, find another parking space, then back into the store, lugging a huge bag of clothes. Did I mention that she insisted three sweaters wasn't enough so I got 6, plus the two pair of black slacks that I had originally went shopping for. Ok, so some earrings and two belts got in there, too. Please, be real, who's counting this time of year. Anyway, I get near a counter and see a huge line, similar to the one I'd just stood in for twenty minutes buying those blasted (but warm! she says) sweaters and think, oh no, please don't tell me I have to go through this again! Then a clerk walks by and I politely tell her what happened, to which she replys, "Yes, you need to get in line again." Well, for once I was glad that ol' broad was along for the ride because she pipes up and says, "Well, you NEED to get a manager." Sweetly, but firmly. Ten minutes later all was corrected with no standing in line, and I headed home, promising to not be so hard on the ol' broad in the future. But I'm not ruling out the nip & tuck docs. ; ) Diana

That's exactly what's happening at my step-fathers work. To cut costs, they went in on a coffee-maker and Wally buys the coffee. He buys Maxwell House on sale. Lately one of the girls stopped drinking the coffee, cause she likes Tim Horton's coffee. She offered to bring in her can of Tim Horton's to try. So he made the Tim Horton's the next day, and they asked what kind of coffee he was making. He said "you tell me". They drank it, and they all thought it was Maxwell House. Maxwell House sells for $5 and Tim Horton's $16 for the same size can. There was a test on tv recently where generic food was poured in name brand container, just like you did. Everyone thought the "name brand" tasted better. Manufacturers count on this as well. We eat with our eyes, and they know most people will pay more for the "real thing". DH and I prefer a lot of generic brands over name brand.

Lesley, thank you so much. Patience is important, and definitely something I struggle with. It's hard to plant something and know it's going to be a few years before it really wows you! I planted two Henri Martins this last summer and a Salet Moss and I'm dying for them to bloom. They are the first "old" roses I've planted and I am just antsy to see them. I was impressed with how much they grew in their first year though from little bands. I have removed New Dawn from my wishlist on ARE! Thank you for letting me know. I definitely don't want a monster of a rose covered in thorns. -------- iris_gal, thank you very much! Yikes... Sounds like a lot of people have had trouble with New Dawn. HMF is bookmarked on my computer. :o) I'm on there way more than I should probably admit! I saw Mme. Plantier gets about 5 feet wide. I don't know that I mind the pruning too much since its vigorous, hardy to zone 3, and near thornless. I dunno? I'm conflicted. -------- Trish, it's good to know I'm not alone! I do feel like I've learned a ton but there is SO much to learn. It always amazes me the stuff everyone knows here. Well I bet in the right place it might not be such a terrible idea! If you had it somewhere where it could get as big as it wanted and you didn't have to pass by it too closely. I don't think a place like that in my yard exists. Hopefully Jeri will come back and tell us what that beautiful rose is. :o) Michaela

Do you ever read some to the postings on the remodeling forum? I just love the ones where someone will try to describe one color, and then ask if it would go with the new widget with the puce colored fringe. You know, "it's sort of like a sky blue, but more like the feathers on a blue bird only not quite as bright, as if it had a little green and lavender in it. Or do you think chocolate brown would look better"

agnes-Yikes, I so know what you mean. We just got our first customer here in our new area(jumping up and down!)You should see and hear what it's like to have someone try to describe a faux finish they want you to do. They have a picture in their mind but no words to describe it! There's arm waving, passion, enthusisam but no words!

That is one of those threads where it just evolves in a certain time and place and is hilarious because everyone who posts were on the same wavelength. If you went back and tried to re-create a thread as funny, it just wouldn't happen. We have had our share of them on the Garden Party as well.

It's sure a pleasant place to visit anymore, but back in the early days, I used to wake my husband up from belly-laughter at the keyboard. Good Lordy, but we had some wild posts. About once a week, I had to take windex to the monitor and keyboard where I'd spill or spit my tea out from laughter.

Yes, it's a staid place nowadays Suzy.

I actually didn't find this post so hilarious. Mildly amusing in a self-conscious sort of way. Nothing will ever beat Dogs In Elk for me. And that hysterical saga of the family of some member coming for a visit - to an island? I forget all of the details, I just remember laughing until it hurt.

I think the main thing is if the posters and responders
get a giggle out of it. The folks over on the KT obviously
had a great time.

Like a joke told the first time gets a laugh, then
trickles down to a stiffled yawn when it gets retold
over and over.

You have to get in on it to begin with.
