Abortion of cukes fruits is generally due to pollination problem. If the plants are still very young may also abort new fruits. Since you have them in container, make sure they get enough water. You have to water them one or twice a day, BUT not too much at a time to wash out the nutrient.
For this reason, you shoud add a bit of soluable nutrient to water.
Besides a dozen cukes in my garden, I have one in a hanging bucket. It had been heat stressed while I was out of town and does not fruit as much.

Cucumbers like warm weather, lots of water and cool nights.

Ania, I'm experiencing much the same thing with my cucumbers too.

Every morning when I check the cucumbers, I hear and see bees crawling into the flowers. My pickling cucumbers are bearing lots of fruit, but the Armenian and lemon cucumber plants are making no fruit. The vines were planted in early May.

I'm having a hard time telling male and female flowers apart on my lemon cukes. I found what I was pretty sure was a female (the cuke at the base is round and so small) and pollenated it with a male...or at least I think I did...we will see. Hope I didn't pollenate a female with a female.

My second guess (lack of pollination would be my first) would be that the plant has insufficient biomass to set seed. It's important to remember that Armenian "cucumber" is botanically a melon, and will act like one. Melons have large root systems, possibly larger than the container can support. If the plant is stunted or stressed, it may continue to abort blossoms.

My lemon cukes were slow to fruitset. Got my first one about a week ago but went out today and out of nowhere I have 10 cukes about ready to pick in next couple of days.

I am also growing this in a container and I have it on a drip system to water every other day but if it is hot I will hit it with hose on day drip system does not run.

I planted this beginning of may and have had bees pollinating for awhile. It is prob a coincidence but once I caged them I started getting fruitset.

Armernian cukes like it very hot and generally don't make fruit that stays on the plant until 70+ days into growth.

It's not uncommon to see fruits form after 50-60ish days and then just drop.

You pretty much treat armenian cukes like you would a melon.

Ooops...that should be "60+ days into growth."

Some (aka, a lot) of seed packets promise mature fruits in 60-65 days, but most of the time it's a week or more around here even under ideal conditions.

Thank you for the feedback. That does explain a lot. I've never grown a melon before. The plants are in a large kiddie pool with some tomatoes and eggplant. Hopefully, that is enough for the roots. But the vines are just starting to gain some major length and size so it may be that the plant is not large enough for fruitset yet.

The blossoms on the lemon cukes really are difficult to distinguish. I was staring at them for a long time yesterday trying to figure out which were females. But at least the one I pollenated the day before was, it started to grow. I pollenated an armenian cuke yesterday so we will see if it is a pollenation problem. I do see lots of bees buzzing around my garden. I found them in the squash blossoms yesterday doing their job.

I have my first Armenian cukes this year. I got fruit about the time the vines were 7-8 feet long (next year they get a bigger trellis).

If you mean the standard kiddie pool about 6 feet across and 12 inches deep I would put only a single hill of melons in it. Maybe lettuce or bush beans around the outer edge to be harvested by the time the vines needed the space.

Roots need room -- especially the roots of vining things that will grow roots at the leaf nodes along the vines if given the chance. :-)

I just posted close up of female blossom on my blog. The females have the little green end that looks like mini lemon cucumber. The males do not have green end and are smaller.

Yep. The armenian cukes were a bad choice for a container. When I bought the plants, I didn't know they were a melon and just bought and planted them. When I learned how big the plant and the cukes get, it was too late. So, I just have to make the best of it now.

Thanks for the pic of the female blossom. The one that I was sure was a female on my plant had a much smaller cuke attached. I think I just want more lemon cukes and my mind is wanting to turn some of those males into females....LOL.

I am growing armenian cukes, just picked a 14 inch fruit yesterday, they are so good. I haven't had to hand pollinate them the bees did it :) I planted them by the watermelons and cantalopes.

I got the answer about pollination but have another point to ponder. I planted numerous seeds and they all came up.
There are about 8 - 10 plants, should I remove most of them from the hill, leaving only a couple ??

This is the first year that mine are not setting fruit. Also I cannot find any female flowers.
