I have 2 gifts and that is it! LOL ordered them from Tiffanys or they would not already be done either. Now working on Dylan's big gift (the camera) and Tanner wants a xbox 360 so will probably get them this weekend....then still have tons to do and not sure when or how I am goingt o get it done....sounds like bad weather for Missouri and Oklahoma til middle of next week and I was going to head home wednesday so I could really get going...but we will see....STacy

You're not alone. I bought one item for a Yankee Swap. Other than that, haven't done a thing.

Nope. I only have to shop for the wife; she does everyone else. I haven't shopped for her yet, but I DID go out at lunch for cards & stamps, though......

"the only browns I ever have are leaves in the fall. My lot is only 33x90 feet including the house and a garage, so hoarding leaves all year is a bit out of the question." Instead of saving up leaves to compost with, just shred them and put them in your beds to serve as mulch and allow them to break down in place. (sheet composting) Some people shred them by making a pile and running over them with the lawnmower a couple of times. Other people put them in a large trash can and use a string trimmer to grind them up. We can all be jealous of the lucky folks who have a big dedicated chipper shredder. Anyway, take the shredded leaves and mulch your beds with them. If you like, you can mix the leaves into the top couple of inches of soil for a faster break down. (I have oaks and magnolias whose leaves break down incredibly slowly, so this helps in my case) Since you have heavy clay like me, you'll find that the earth worms just swarm in your beds to gobble up the shredded leaves, dragging that organic material deeper and really loosening up the soil and helping improve drainage. Adding used coffee grounds along with the leaves kicks that into turbo mode as earth worms absolutely love uncomposted coffee grounds. I divided some Japanese painted ferns this spring in an area where I always pile on the coffee grounds and the soil there was absolutely thick with worms. The more experience I have with sheet composting the more I think it's the way to go, especially for those of us trying to make a difference in heavy clay.

Jackie, Good for you! Fragrance is very important. BUT, most of the time, I can't smell most of my roses. The Rugosa Rotesmeer is the only rose I grow which consistently provides me scent. I can also smell myrrh which is probably why I like it. I can pick up a little wafting scent as I walk through the garden. It is light and pleasing. But, disappointing when you figure I have at least 30 very fragrant roses. On the other hand, the fragrance of the butterfly bushes is overwhelming. And I love my "Miss Kim" too. So fragrance is not necessary to allow me to love my roses.

Well. I'm saying this with the utmost respect and kindness, but: y'all have nothing on me! I just came inside from planting my last 80 bulbs. It was fun, actually (although my feet are now very cold). The ground here is frozen about an inch down. So I levered up frozen slabs with a shovel, added amendments to the cool but unfrozen soil underneath, plunked in the bulbs. I replaced the frozen crust, then jumped up and down on it a few times to settle everything. Easy--and I'm sure all of my non-gardening, home-on-vacation neighbors found it highly entertaining. Tomorrow, I have to finish my "fall" cleanup. I left the hose out--thankfully, I had the sense to disconnect and empty it--and the garden is strewn with a variety of pots, some planted and some not, all of which have to go...somewhere. Then there are a few things left to plant: a peony division, a few day lily divisions, and so on. It's not my fault! :) I suffer from the delusion that I live in northern England, and I learned a lot about gardening from a former neighbor in Cambridge (MA, not England). This lovely, intrepid/crazy lady routinely planted bulbs in late December and had a collection of vines growing up supports she's super-glued to the apartment building next to hers. She planted her bulbs in the "verge" (area between sidewalk and street), which was prime dog-walking territory in that neighborhood. No matter, she had a grade-school-age relative draw graphic pictures to illustrate a number of "This is Not a Dog Toilet!" signs. Anyway, her garden thrived, and mine does, too. I like to push a few limits in it. So you can all relax, and feel very organized and on-schedule. Amanda - And hey--I've got pansies blooming!

Cathy, YES! They call me for advice also but they don't take it. However, my neighbor and I went to Wild Birds Unlimited yesterday and she bought baffles for both her houses - great news! But I cannot believe the Audubon Society is letting HOSP'S nest in their boxes. That would really upset me also, and I have to say, I would probably end up going off on someone who lets HOSP's nest in the boxes - just shocking it's the Audubon Society, causing more damage to the bluebirds than helping them. Kendra, conservation, huh?!? Wow. I AM glad to hear that at least some people in your area have proper baffles, but can't believe the conservation people don't. Linda, I understand you having a harsh opinion, I can relate! Ignorance, I can (somewhat) understand - I just try and educate in that case, not that they will listen - but I have to at least try. However, once they are aware of what WILL happen and still do nothing, I have no patience for the stupid and lazy. I tend to take it personally also, knowing that it may be the blues I worked so hard to fledge that may be "murdered" because the landlords just don't care, like you said. Thanks ladies for your input.

I am getting close to done, waiting on 3 gifts yet. Going to look this weekend for one and the other 2 are hard! I am thinking of a pedicure gift certificate for my GF (thanks KT'ers!)
My Uncle who lives in the nursing home is awful to buy for, there is nothing he "needs" and I'd like a gift to be fun for him.
I still need to pick up underwear and toothbrushes (they always get those 2 things fer sure) for the GB's stockings and then I will be done!
Only banana bread baked and nothing figured out for food, I want to finish shopping so I can concentrate on that.

No Stacy, I've only got 2 gifts ordered. One has arrived, and the other was shipped yesterday. Lots to do yet, but waiting on the $$ to hit the bank. Guess I could use my credit card, but hate doing that. May have to though. Oh well, that's why I have it.

You aren't alone. I don't shop for adults as I buy for friends and loved ones throughout the year instead.

Little ones will get $$ and Moms and Dads can either get them something with it or the little ones can shop themselves after Christmas for something they'd like, after all the holiday hoopla is over.

DBF and I usually don't exchange gifts either, since we both have everything, and buy for one another throughout the year. I did however recently find and buy a new (to him) kitchen range and already delivered it. His old one was avocado green and he had talked for years about 'maybe' replacing it someday. I told him it was an early Christmas gift.

Yep we got good snow here yesterday to Big so guess what I did yesterday afternoon and last night???? LOL you guessed it..the kids in us came out again....sledding and we had a blast...Stacy

I've hardly done any shopping yet either ... just can't get into the Christmas mood altho I say that every year until I get the tree up and then it becomes a reality and I hit the shops in a panic!

Family is exchanging gift cards and we play Christmas Bingo. Have some prizes and the gift cards are easy - waiting on next pay.
Found some shirts I bought for hubby on clearence last year and bought him a coffee press he asked for.
Mom gets half her internet bill paid by me and half by my brother.
Ordered mom a dvd she wants and need to get her something to unwrap.
Taking little nephews to see a Cowboy Christmas production instead of buying toys they don't need. Real horses on stage!

Glad Wal-Mart is open 24 hours - you would be suprised to see how empty it is before 8 am.

No, I've done almost nothing. Most my friends/family need nothing and are impossible to buy for. It's really difficult. Gotta get hot on it next week.

I am just piddling along~~~the earlier I shop the more I buy~~~for Myself~~~Went to Kohl's today bought 60bucks worth of stuff and realized on the way home it was Halloween (YUP good sale price) runners for my gal pals to give them next year. And clothes for me. I do not even remember why I went there. And this was after meeting my pal at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for coffee and gossip and spending 50bucks there on two coffee mugs for me one a travel mug the other a Christmas mug and two pink travel breast cancer mugs for DD's to give them next Oct. What's up with that OH they were all 20% off:)

Lunchlady who can not pass up a deal. I think I am outta control!!!
