could I ask for some good thoughts.......

Hi everyone,

I know that there are people here going through more than I, but I know that the payers here work, and that we have animal lovers here.

My little gray tabby, Gizmo, has a red growth of some sort in his mouth. I am taking him to the vet today. I am sooo worried that it is something serious, but trying not to get too ahead of myself.

So, if you had a minute to send up a good thought or two for Gizmo, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. She may get out of the Critical Care Unit, and on to a regular floor, if they can find a room for her. They're bringing in a infectious disease doctor too, but the antibiotics seem to be doing the trick. She's on Leviquin (sp) which is one of the most powerful one out there (I think). Also, checking why her immune system is so low. This makes about the 3rd time this winter with pneumonia, for her. She never takes care of herself when shes sick, and lets it go to long. Long story, but she has her 2 grown sons living with her and her husband in a 1 bedroom, (plus a sm. computer room) apt. The oldest is to have hip replacement tomorrow around 1:00. He's been on steroids for a long time, and broke his hip jumping off a pickup at work. Sorry, getting off the topic here. Again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They are so appreciated. A couple of years back our dog was stiff and sore to the point where he couldn't even shake his head. His neck was obviously sore, and we assumed that he had strained or sprained something. Our vet noted that his teeth were plaque-covered, and his gums were slightly inflamed, and said that bacteria from the teeth could get into the bloodstream and cause inflammation and pain elsewhere after a round of antibiotics and pain relievers he was feeling better, and we took him to a friend who was a animal dental specialist who did a thorough cleaning, but he said that some of his teeth were bad enough that they needed to be pulled. After that our dog seemed better and back to his usual happy self for a couple more years. I have no idea whether this could be that case for your little guy, but your description sounds similar. Shelly, I wish you well. I wonder if you are having the same thing I had done 4 years ago. After several MRI's and Xrays to diagnosis the problem I went to the Neurosurgeon who injected cortizone into my neck and also my lower back. I went three weeks in a row for the shots. I also have arthritis and bulging discs. The steroid injections worked wonders and I haven't had to return yet. I am starting to get a few twinges in the same lower back area but so far nothing like what I had experienced before. There were days when I couldn't get out of bed because of the lower back pain. I didn't have any difficulty with the injections and I opted to have local shots of Zylocaine to numb the area rather than be sedated. The only pain I felt was from the first shot of Zylocaine- and that pain only lasts for about 10 seconds and then you're numb. Then he injected more Zylocaine to numb the rest of the area. My Neurosurgeon is a genius and the needles he used are amazingly thin. Most of the others patients who were there for the shots chose the sedation. I'll be thinking of your tomorrow. Try to relax.

Maybe this will make you smile while you are waiting to hear about Gizmo.

Years ago, our very old cat, Fluffy, who BTW, wasn't fluffy, was sitting in an outside window looking into the bathroom. I saw her there and she meowed to let me know she wanted in. When she meowed, I could see a good sized something in her mouth. I thought it was on her gums and it looked terrible. I couldn't bear to think about what it might be, but cancer was on my mind.

I didn't want to have to hear what I thought the vet was going to say, so I made my DH and DS take her to the vet. They came back grinning and teasing me about being so upset.

It was a hairball from where she had been bathing herself and it was stuck and all wet looking. Vet removed it and Fluffy was fine.

I hope Gizmo's problem is not as bad as I know you are thinking it is, just like I did.

Hi everyone,

I posted an update about the Giz-man. I did notice that it seemed to fall to the 2nd or 3rd page pretty quickly.....I guess this place has been busy lately!!

He got a shot, some antibiotics to take home, and some kind of oral rinse, which he is not happy about.

He goes in next Wed. for a complete dental, all his lab work looked great the vet said, except for elevated white blood cells. She did not rule out that it could still be cancer. So we will hope and pray for the best. I can tell he feels better, and he hasn't pawed at his mouth at all, also when I sneak a peek in, like when he yawns (ha ha ) it isn't red anymore, so maybe, just maybe, we are going to be o.k.

My fur babies and I are saying prayers for Gizmo. He's special, because that was my husband's nickname for me.
