I have to wait a while longer to see if I still have a brain

After waiting for a follow up MRI on my head (brain and eye) since September 22nd, I had to cancel the one that was scheduled for today. They called last night to confirm the appointment and I asked about not eating after midnight. She told me that that is not necessary for MRI's and I said it was because of the sedation. She said, "no, we don't do the concious sedation here." Whoa! I was NOT a happy camper. I couldn't do the first MRI with taking an ativan. They pulled that headpiece over my face, and then moved me in to the tube and I freaked out. lol So they had to reschedule me for one with versaid? Or another drug similar to that. One of the drugs they use for colonoscopies. I have claustrophobia, I thought it was getting better, I tried to talk myself down, but it didn't work.

I told the Doc, the nurses, the scheduler this. I told them a dozen times if I told them once. I made sure they knew that I HAD to have this. I told the doc in the appointment in September how silly I felt because this was the least invasive thing done to me in more than a year and it was the one thing I couldn't handle. I told them to make sure that this facility did the concious sedation... oh, yes, we do. No problem. ACK! The scheduler hasn't called yet today, I will call her in a minute. I had to wait for 3 weeks to get in to the U of W med. clinic for that last one. Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper yesterday evening. I didn't find out until 415pm yesterday.

My hair is about 1/4" long now, or almost! lol But it looks like I'm going to have a mohawk for a while! ahahahahah... it is growing up towards the crown of my head! Hmmm wonder if I should get a nose piercing to go with my new look? Or maybe some safety pin earrings? LOL

the SCCA is a world class facility. I wouldn't have gone anywhere else. This is just one of those mixups. I'll survive. But it always helps to throw a little fit sometimes! lol

It's such a simple thing--the sedation or not. Too bad you had to go through this distress. It's fantastic that you are so near a top-notch treatment place.

I thought about that tasymo. I think what I am going to do is make them awnings instead. I have some old tin and am going to nail or screw that to the back of the window. I have the glass busted out of all the old wood windows. I am still trying to decide if I want to have the rusty side of the tin showing, or paint the tin the same as the trim around my windows. Leaning heavily toward the painting.

I had posted some pics on the perennials forum too, and someone over there wanted to know what the foliage looked like, so thought I would post it here too! :o) Thoses little white shoots that you see in the picture will all be blooms. As I said earlier they are really sprouting out all over. Glad those of you that are looking for it have found some places that carry it. But, BEWARE it does get big, and remember that "dumb" me planted 2 of them. Thought with our cold winters and shorter summers that it probably wouldn't get as big as advertised! Well lots of things don't (at least in other peoples gardens!) my daughter swears she does NOT want to know what is buried in our yard, as everything gets so BIG! ;-)

Tom, I customarily grow several different types of basil in between and in front of my tomatoes. This year I grew Cinnamon Basil, Lettuce Leaf, Genovese, Sweet, and Globe. Sometimes I save seeds to see if I get a good cross, but mostly it seems to degenerate after two of three years, and it seems to be more productive if I buy fresh seeds each year. The worst basil I tried was Blue Spice (a hybrid) ... weird flavor and funky aroma! You're so right! Even wholesale you get ripped off. The reason I grow so much basil is to supply a friend of mine who purees it into pesto for his pizza shop/Italian eatery. Otherwise, he has to buy it in pints at about 9 - 15 bucks each! The last two years he hasn't had to buy any pesto from July until May (he freezes it). I freeze a little pesto myself, and dry the remains of the plants at the end of the season for my own kitchen use. When I do what you did with the tomatoes, I liberally (the only way!) sprinkle the marinating toms with dry basil and let it rehydrate in the ex.virg. olive oil and fresh lemon juice laced with fresh crushed GARLIC. Then I top it off just before eatin' with cracked black pepper and fresh grated Parm. Yum, yum. Bill

Thanks everyone, the clock is what it is. Really in person it is hardly noticible. Or at least I don't see it very much. What brings everything so darned forward is the hugh pictures I put up. I did look on photoshop to see where the first icon is, but the only way I know how to post a picture is to use the "more" options and cut and paste the HTTP. I know my camera takes large pictures and have had trouble with this in other sites, but I cannot figure out how to reduce the pixels before up loading any pictures. In the meantime, I really hesitate to put any more pictures up. All of you gals are really, truly, wonderful and supportive, but magnitizing any work does not do it justice. Even Van Gough (and belive me, I am not saying that I am worthy even to wash his socks), but put a magnifing glass to his work, and it would look like blurry dots, but when you stand back to see them... it brings tears to your eyes, so incredibaly beautiful and dimensional. Yeah, yeah I know, stand wayyy farrr back to see the clock, still not beautiful, but it does look much better. I desperately need to find a way to fix my photo problems. Joan

I wish you had a facility that does "open MRI" (no tube). We have one here. You probably wouldn't need Versed for that.

I can understand your problem, Kat! I am absolutely the most claustrophobic person on the planet and I don't think I could get through an MRI. I hope you can get this straightened out today so you don't have to worry about it! Hey, lady, that hair is going to be beautiful when it grows a little bit more and besides, Mohawks are still in fashion. but STAY AWAY from the nose rings!!! ((Kat))

How very, very frustrating. Did you feel steam coming out of your ears? These days I feel like I need written proof of everything agreed upon because without it it is too easy for requests to be forgotten. So happy to see you're still as spunky as can be, kat!

I had an open mri once and thought that was barely tolerable. I really hope someone apologizes to you!

Kat, I can so relate! I've been getting yearly head MRI's for the past 14 years and I dread it each time. I've tried the open MRI, but was told the pictures are not as definitive, so it was back to the closed. My MRI facility does not offer sedation, so my only option is valium. If the mask part wasn't placed over our heads, I think it wouldn't bother me as much. I just keep telling myself, it's only a machine and it can't hurt me. I have a love/hate relationship with the MRI. I love that it saved my life, I hate that it makes me so nervous.

The one head MRI that I had, the mask had a little mirror. When you looked into it, it reflected a ceiling panel that looked like a landscape/seascape. It was very calming because you had the sensation of looking out a window toward a horizon. When I came out of the machine, I checked out the ceiling panel and it looked like an abstract, totally different to the way it looked when viewed by the mirror. I always wondered who was clever enough to have invented and designed that panel.

Anyway, I hope your future appointments go more smoothly, Kat.

Kat, I know how frustrating it is when scheduling gets screwed up. I hope they can get you in soon for the conscious sedation MRI. You are such a trooper.

YOU HAD A BRAIN??? dang...I thought to be a member of the KT we all had to admit that we're over the hill and at least half brainless...so please don't tell me now you've fooled us all along and you HAVE A BRAIN!!

Awww Kat...it's ok...claustrophobia is real and there's nothing to be ashamed of...yes you may think it's silly considering all you've gone thru in the last year...but you're still my hero cause I could never have done what you have and just so you'll know who's making all the racket I'm sneaking into your house after while to see how you look in a mohawk!! You know you should never have told us this...now I'm gonna be callin you "MO" from now on out!!

I hope you get it rescheduled soon...but we all know that you're gonna get that clean bill of health!!

Hang in there :o) I'm very claustrophobic, myself, and I needed badly to have an MRI recently. Because of my kidney cancer, they had put clips in one kidney to hold it in place. My doctor didn't think I could have an MRI because of these clips, but my specialist and the MRI doctor said it had been long enough that I "could" have one. So...I was battling claustrophobia "and" the fear of having the MRI go bad, but I finally was able to physic myself into going through with it....I wanted the MRI badly...but, I know what you are saying for sure.

I can only do 'open' MRI. I've had the same experience of showing up only to find nobody had taken note of those orders. Sorry, Kat.

I had an MRI prior to sinus surgery some years ago. The tech's report talked about the sinus tissues and added this reasuring information: "The remaining brain appears normal." I think we had ESL going there. He meant to say that the portion of brain he could see from the test was healthy. At least I *think* that's what he meant!

After my stroke (2001) I had many MRIs. I had them done in a regular tube-like MRI. They put headphones on me so I could listen to music. They also gave me a "panic button" if I couldn't take it. But I got thru all of them okay. Once I even got so relaxed I fell asleep. Good luck. they're not all that bad. But I do think, if a person has a special request, the hospital staff should accomodate him/her.
