Who here uses Photoshop? There's a special on until today, and I'm wondering if it would be worth getting.

I'm a graphic designer and use Photoshop every day. There are basically three types of Photoshop.

1. The current full-feature version ... Adobe CS4 Photoshop (upwards of $1,000)
2. Striped down version ... Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 (about $100)
3. Older, lesser priced striped and full versions ... Adobe Photoshop 4, 5, 6, 7, CS2, CS3 & Elements 4, 5 & 6 (significantly cheaper)

It all depends on what you want to do with Photoshop. If you want all or most of the bells and whistles Photoshop offers, I'd suggest finding an older version on eBay or something.

If you don't care about things like the pen tool and such, go for Elements.

If you plan on being a graphic designer or doing a lot of photo retouching, go for the full version.

Whoops... I made a HUGE error. The special is on Paint Shop Pro, not Photoshop. As you can see, I'm not very talented or knowledgeable.

I really loved the Ken Mason color better with the counter but this color def. works great with the counter and the cement tile "rug" I have as well. I also have an old door from India that was made into a cabinet that works with this color on the other side of kitchen so it comes together nicely.

What version were you running before? Is it that your new operating system won’t run the older version? If you have the original serial number, you used to be able to get a discount for an upgrade via buying it entirely new. Adobe might be able to help if you reach out to them directly. Also, look under their photography plans, they have one that has PS with Lightroom for only $10per month vs PS by itself for $20. It’s a marketing ploy for them to get people to use more Adobe products. Like how the Creative Suite Cloud is cheaper than buying all the programs individually.

I can touch it up some more. I'll be in Cathedral City tomorrow, and I do not have Photoshop there. If you do not like this, let me know, and I will delete it.

You probably don't want your house to look exactly like your neighbors, so I vote for a gray that is slightly darker than theirs and a blue front door. I think white houses are boring, but if that's the color you like best there is nothing wrong with it. :-) White is a classic color for a cape. But while you're redoing the front you can get rid of the shutters as Patricia said. If you have any money left after doing the addition, put on a real front porch/portico and invest in landscaping. Especially if the addition is going to have living space over it and connect to the existing space it is important to engage an architect. Contractors just build what they're told to build and most of them don't have an artistic sensibility. At least yours told you about the color issue and is having you think about it up front.

I use PSP X, love it. I'm thinking of updating, but haven't so far.
There is a forum here on GW, called Graphics and scanning, they are always doing PSP tutorials. Lots of knowledgeable people on there!

I had been using Photoshop since number 2. I let my updates lapse and didn't want to pay that huge amount so went with Elements last year. After using Photoshop all these years I am very dissappointed in it. But if you never used Photoshop before, then Elements is fine for home use. I have never used Paint Shop Pro. I will have to check out that forum and read up on it. Maybe I will like it better then Elements.

Thanks, Joan.. I've been nosing around that forum.. it does seem like a friendly forum, and you're right, there is lots of info there.

I think I shouldn't have left this to the last minute. The version that is on special is PSP X2, and wikipedia (I know, I know) has a blurb on it about spyware that concerns me.

Maybe I should just do some research, and get an earlier version instead of the latest one... I will have to figure this out.
