Anyone watching The Dome?

I saw Jodi is:) Just wondering what you think of it. I bought the book for DS while waiting for our plane at the airport, and he devoured the 1000 page book over our vacation. He had plenty of time to meet girls and party, too. He gave it to me and I started it, but it will probably take me a few weeks to read since I read before bed and don't last too long. Just wondering if I should watch the show after I read the book? I won't ruin the suspense til I'm done, although I heard the TV show doesn't follow the book all that much. Haven't read Stephen King in awhile, and am really enjoying the book.

I'm watching it but haven't read the book. The show has just been renewed. I keep watching it because I want to know where the dome came from but, honestly, if they keep killing everyone off there won't be anyone left in the dome.

If this was a book I would have read the ending by now and taken it back to the library. The show is beginning to bore me.

I'm watching it. At first it was intriguing but the last episode was kind of dumb. I'll watch it for a few more weeks before i decide whether or not to jump ship.

Hi That is the interesting part about the "Cool house" in Singapore. It is being designed entirely for plants that will not tolerate high temps. Warm / hot growers are no problem . Also I thought interesting was the primary occupants will be Bromeliads not orchids. I have used both evaporative cooling and refrigeration on my small area and both were miserable failures for opposite reasons lol. My average humidity is too high to allow EC to work particularly during summer. Refrigeration lowers temps but causes a corresponing drop in humidity. Both bad news for High altitude tropicals. Their yearly temps average way above mine without a winter respite like I have. Kew uses outside cold air during winter so gets a big break on operating costs during winter. Summers are also generally mild. So evaporative cooling is effective. But Singapore just like s. florida has no "cold " air lol I have a big break over Singapore in that I have around two months of tolerable conditions so the OC drop. Singapore does not have a single week !! This is particularly what caught my eye . Can't think of a worse location to build a "Cool house" Another thing from my own experience. I generally find heat tolerant tropicals far more adaptable to cool or even cold temps while cool to cold growers are far less adaptable to heat particularly without a night time drop. Another thing is the selection of species. Bromeliads, as a guess I'd say they can grow at least 80 percent of all species without any moderation at all. One serious problem for many would be rainfall. Gee a simple roof would handle that problem except for the high lights. There you could use no media perhaps with fans for quick drying. I grow several on hanging wires for that reason But here again I get a big break during winter. Rainfall is tolerable for at least two months as well as humidity drops, I can fall into almost ideal ranges for several weeks. I had always wanted to have a cool house even a very small one but could find no way to make it work at all let alone be practicle. Maybe they know something I don't !!!lol gary

"The Bear" is on Hulu -- SO and I just started watching it and are enjoying. I can't do subtitles anymore sadly.. i need to either watch or read subtitles, I can't focus on both. Ive learned to excuse bad dubbing as a result. @Mimou-GW fwiw companies are improving with regards to hiring people who are neurodivergent. My tech company has a whole division focused on hiring, training and providing staffing for companies who want to be more inclusive. Our program works with young adults who have struggled to find and keep jobs in the past-- they provide specialized training and evaluation to find their unique strengths and to develop, guide and mentor them through their careers. I am not involved with the division but I am considering moving to that division in the future. From what I understand they are getting great feedback and have seen great successes in the areas of cybersecurity and software testing among others. It is so wonderful to hear some of the folks working under this program talk about how much they love their jobs and just as sad to hear about their past experiences trying to "fit in" at other companies.

@arcy_gw, the 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren is streaming! Prime, Roku, Tubi, Freevee, and others. I think it is also on DVD at my library. Last year I watched it easily a dozen or more times while washing all the china and crystal in my parents’s house for the estate sale (along with White Christmas). And I watched it night before last. It is so charming! A few years ago my son took me to the neat-o movie theater in the city for The Sound of Music, on the big screen. Oh, my, I was in heaven. He’s a good kid! btw, if you go to an Ellis Island website you can see their names on the list when they came over. And you would be surprised at where some of them were born. After all, the Captain was in the navy, when Austria actually had ports. And their ages, because the oldest boy was already out of university.

I think the loose clothing worn in freestyle skiing (moguls, big air) and freestyle snowboarding (halfpipe, big air) is partly style (derived from skateboard roots) and partly function (aerodynamics isn’t a priority). You certainly could fit a back protector or other body armor under that clothing, but I haven’t read of most competitors using those. The bright knee patches are visual (to help the judges see the leg motion) although I guess pads could fit under there. The Australian gold in men’s moguls was a massive upset. He beat the greatest mogul skiier ever and the reigning #1. But Kingsbury gold medaled in the head to head moguls, giving Canada its first gold in three games and cementing his GOAT status. Even more than downhill skiing, (competitive) moguls are a young person’s sport. It isn’t as traumatically dangerous in the sense of broken legs and torn ligaments, but the beating on backs and knees is huge. I took a week mogul camp from a Canadian who was a former World Champion. He was amazing to watch in the bumps. His style was much smoother than current comp bump style, partly she but also the prevailing style has changed.

Is the book scary, Sleeperblues? The last Stephen King book I read was The Shining. I was nursing one of my babies at the time, and the book made me so tense it interfered with my letdown. :-)

I read the book, liked it better than the show, so far not following the book too much. But, it's ok.

Yes! My husband and I are both watching it and are completely hooked. I thought it was going to be a mini series based on the book, and expected it to have an ending.

Surprised to hear they are making it into a series and renewed for a second season with Stephen King writing the first two episodes.

The other series we've become hooked on after the first episode was BBC's Broadchurch. Really excellent mystery!!

It's interesting enough to keep watching. Must get the book.

Tally - Wasn't Broadchurch intriguing? It drew me in from the very first moments and my interest never lagged. Watching the Mother running along the road toward the beach was such a simple yet dramatic moment. It was so well done and the acting superb.

I watched 3 or 4 episodes of Dome. It started out so well but then started losing steam and I gave up.

Can't believe they're making it into a series.

I read the book and this show is nothing even closely resembling the story.

George and I watched the first three episodes and then called it quits. He hadn't read the book, but thought the writing was dumb beyond words.

I'm watching, my family likes it so I play along. The acting is predictable and it's a bit overdramatic. Imo.

Maire, I watched the first episode of Broadchurch twice!! And then when his friend (Tom?).....well, I'm not going to post a spoiler in case someone else wants to watch.

But needless to say that one scene towards the end blew my mind.

I'm still watching but am getting annoyed with the young Hispanic Sheriff Deputy who now that the Sheriff is dead feels it's her job to boss everyone around. She just seems too young for the part and isn't the greatest actress out there. Better than I'd ever be, but still... :-)

I am not easily 'hooked' by TV series..... but, so far I am interested in some of the characters, so I will watch for awhile. It IS better than much of the stuff that is on.... I am expecting next season to be different or more interesting maybe?

I agree with Jodi. The actor playing the police chief is too young and not a strong enough personality to play the role. There is no "edge" to her. I watched a couple episodes and gave it up.

I read the book and refuse to watch it, esp now that it is going into a season 2. The book was good, I did not really get or care for the ending~~~was surprised they made a series out of it, how long can they drag it out?

It was a very long book, but I read it fast, I could not put it down~~
