I thought it would be a good show to "fall-asleep-by". But...it was shockingly trashy. DH told me ALL these Bachelor shows are. I didn't know that. If a woman is strong she doesn't need to "catch" a man to make her complete. One rode in on her motorcycle, then proclaimed how scared she was. One opened her robe to flash him. One proclaimed she was related to someone famous....who? ....Jimmy Kimmel's aunt. WOW! I was totally disgusted by it all....and turned it off.

Didn't someone here know one of the women who were going to be on? I can't imagine ever watching these shows. Back in the day I was told they begin by having the contestans all tested for STDs that was all I ever needed to know. One season years ago we watched the reality show that has partners racing all over the world, and when my kids were at home they loved Surviovor. Anyone ever think they should just read a book????

Nicole, I get what you are saying. I'm sure all the women were prompted to be creative in their introductions. Otherwise it would be boring.

I will sheepishly admit I LOVE these type of shows, watch them all. My guilty pleasure...sometimes just like watching a train wreck, you can't look away, lol. There's always drama (most of it scripted, probably), travel to beautiful places, beautiful clothes, crazy people, nice people, etc. I am almost always surprised by who the contestant is most attracted to initially and this show was no exception. His first pick seemed 'off' to me, but after their date, they seemed to be a good match potentially.

I used to watch some of those shows years ago. I don't have satelite tv anymore and I don't miss it. I watched the little clip above and he seemed okay until he equated meeting the women with opening packages on Christmas. Gag. lol.

@eld6161 I think they must help with the clothing somehow (and hair and makeup) because the gowns (especially on the Bachelorette) are very high end. Not sure how some of those women working the jobs they say they have could afford it. I don't know if they give them a budget or someone in wardrobe to select for them or at least provide a selection to choose from.

Yes, they all do look high end. And who would have that gold gown in their wardrobe?

I do occasionally watch the Bachelor or Bachelorettes shows . I think this Golden guy is great. I like him better than all the younger bachelors that I've seen on the show. I think some of the women were over the top like the one who intimated she had her birthday suit on under her coat. My kids would be mortified if I had done something like this. The Indian woman who left for a family emergency was the one I thought was lovely and refined-looking.

I looked this stuff up. No they do not pay for your clothes. You have to supply them yourself except at the very end for some ceremony or other. You do not get paid to be on these shows-either one. The shows are semi scripted. People have to quit their jobs and it doesn't usually pay for most people. If you don't end up in the final cut, and I don't watch these shows so do not know how they work, you will not get much umph out of them. You are housed and fed. They don't get to eat the food set out for dinners out or something to do with the fantasy suite what ever that is. They think people don't want to watch the contestants chew. I wonder why people keep doing this in the vain hope of being discovered but there you are. It is mostly not real but a very very few couples actually marry, I think five and not necessarily the person they proposed to or what ever. If you enjoy it have fun. Fantasy it is. Why not. Not my thing but. I would never have looked into this if not for this thread and so thank you. I am illuminated.

No. I just cannot wrap my head around the idea of attractive, nice women willingly entering into a competition for a MAN of all things.

After I posted above, I also looked up the source of clothing. Also, some contestants get clothing free from designers or stores with the agreement that they will post on instagram the source of the fashions for the free publicity.

Imagine looking at your wardrobe and having to pack?! Most of us here get nervous enough packing for a vacation.

I read that one of the female contestants on the Bachelor had spent 20K on clothes to take onto the show. I cannot imagine why any woman would want to go on any of these shows.

If your intention was to marry the stats dont seem that good. With five marriages out of 41 shows and two those were not to the person selected at the end I would think you could do better on one of the dating sites. I think mostly people are looking for exposure in show business or some such thing. It is what fuels reality tv in general. I am with Amylou on the idea of competing for some man or other. Do you get to see the man before you sign on to compete for him (or vice versa woman)? Does someone have to be picked?

I should have said the lead gets stuff, I was thinking of the competitors. The men would have it easier as they can wear the same thing over and over. I read somewhere that some of the women spend thousands. That would be easy to do I think with fancy dresses.

I think in these times of ’influencers’ a lot of the participants are after exposure and followers. They also get to travel to amazing places. Surely some think they will snag the love if their life. I think there was at least one season when the woman didn’t select anyone.

Flipping, we landed on the show and got sucked into it, around the point where they were having a talent show or whatever. The shy blonde woman was very sweet and got picked for the date, but then had to leave the show to tend to her daughter. There were one or two other ok choices but beyond that I found myself thinking if this group is indicative of desirable pickings as a senior, I hope my marriage lasts. The bachelor seems nice but either it’s very scripted or he has an oddly deliberate manner of speaking. Either way, I hope he ends up happy.

i've watched a few minutes here and there, enough to know i won't watch much more than that. i don't know the woman's name but there's one that has had more than her share of cosmetic surgery. her whole face looks plastic.

Did anyone see him on Jimmy Kimmel? He's very sweet and seems quite normal. Says he's finished filming the season and is in love. Glad for him. Curious as to which of the women it is. The show is quite disappointing for me that there is teen girl drama, it seems. I always assume women are over that after high school, but apparently not. Lots of insecurities showing, which doesn't bode well for him with some of them.

Oly, I'm guessing that the drama is encouraged. It takes the edge off the almost sappiness.

I'm kind of surprised at many of the comments above. I haven't watched the show, so I have only the advance commercials that I saw to judge it by. But I thought he came across as very conceited and egotistical in those commercials. And the women? Cheap and tawdry in spite of fancy clothes and heavy make-up.

No, I don't watch any of the Bachelor or Bachelorette shows, so maybe that is a too harsh judgement. I tried to watch one or two a couple of times, but the whole idea of them seems almost kind of sick to me. That's just my opinion, of course, apparently a lot of people do like that sort of show, as they seem to go on and on and on.

Ok. I do sort of get Rusty's comment. I would say self involved per this interview where he forgot to mention what he wanted to give this person he is looking for in such a for me bizarre way. He talks totally about what he wants. Not I would necessarily think a true representation of his real meaning since he would not be adept in expressing himself on camera. I still do not get anyone who isn't looking for an acting career to go this route to find love.

Patrice, I can see personal gain for the younger bachelor/bachelorette shows. But, with these older contestants, I thinks it's more for the unique experience.

They are truthfully looking for love but I'm not sure they believe it will happen on this show.

I don't watch much tv these days and have never seen one of the”Bachelor” shows, but the idea of featuring older contestants is a nice idea, I think. And, probably much appreciated by a lot of viewers.

I think talking on camera isn't easy for someone not used to it. I think he is a good guy and is very earnest. Of course he's talking about what he wants. But on the show, he is very kind and concerned with the women's feelings and experiences. Not patronizing, but nice and considerate. I found him more at ease on the Jimmy Kimmel show which I mentioned above. I loved their discussion about his name and the spelling and pronunciation. It's spelled Gerry, which most of us would pronounce Jerry, but he pronounces it Geary. Interesting, actually.

Oly, I saw that clip, too too, and thought he seemed like a very kind man. He said his name is Irish and pronounced Gear-y.
