I eat and write with my left hand, but do everything else with my right. I consider myself a leftie.

Leftie here, totally and did it all until an accident and lost the use of my left hand totally, for over two years. Now I have all use of it back but I can do almost as well with my right hand and catch myself using either or....I can write words backwards in sentences with my left or right hand.

Ambidexterous (I can even put on mascara, or play with a raquet in either hand). So I'm 1/2 left-handed, and only get to be 1/2 hearted about?

I am right handed, but when I was a small child, I badly injured my right hand...twice. Once with a bad 3rd deg. burn and just as that was getting well....a gunshot wound from a .38 pistol. So, I learned to do everything left handed, until I went to school...I learned to write right handed, but since I used my left hand so much, I was more or less ambidextrous. Then about 3 years ago, I broke my left wrist. Had surgery and it healed badly. I can use my left hand but it is out of alignment and weak. So I am back to using my right hand for everything...although still it is my first impulse to always use my left. So I guess I am thoroughly mixed up.

Lefties unite!

I've thought about what would happen if I couldn't use my left hand. Gosh, I don't know how you guys did it. From what I've read, it was a matter of necessity.

Yikes, Marilyn! Guess you're lucky to even have a right hand. The nuns tried to change me when I was young, but it didn't work. (Stubborn was my middle name.) BTW, did you see the post about rose thorns? Please read, if you didn't.

One thing I do right-handed is use my mouse. I was taught using it (and it was a long, long process to get it right), but it never occurred to me to put the danged mouse on the other side of the keyboard. Duh!!

I guess a lot of presidents have been left-handed. Haven't checked.

Mom was left-handed, and she always tilted the paper to write, vs curling her hand over the top of the page. Her handwriting was slanted to the right, like right-handed people do.

How do you all write?

I am not a leftie, but there are lots of 'em in my family. My dad's two brothers (but not my dad), both my grandfathers, one of my sons are all lefties. Two of my kids married lefties, and so far three of my seven grands are lefties. Don't know what the baby is yet, but at one year, I think she leans left.

Does anyone actually have good penmanship since the computer came about and everyone started to type? My handwriting has changed considerably in the last twenty years. Texting is also killing my ability to spell words and I was an excellent speller until recently in my life. I can still spot a mistake when reading a book but am forever second guessing myself now when trying to compose anything.

threejs, I've become the same way. I can still spot a typo without even trying, but second guess my own spelling at times.

Left handed to eat, write, hold coffee mug, crochet, and talk on the phone. Everything else I do right handed and they aren't interchangeable.

I guess we write the same way as you do, 'cause y'all can read what we say, right?

I turn my page nearly sideways, top to the left, & curl my hand over the top;
it's the only way, I think, to position my left hand so that I'm "pulling" the pen just as all you righties do.

My grandmother found it difficult to write, & her handwriting was painfully crabbed;
she had been "changed".

My 1st grade teacher never mentioned lefthandedness, & by the end of that first year, I was writing up a storm.

My 2nd grade teacher mentioned it only once;
although that was over 40 years ago, the episode was so scary that I still remember it.

She was mortified to see that I was using my left hand & "gently" put the pencil in my right hand & *begged* me to "try".

She looked at me with a martyred expression & sighed & shook her head & went on to help someone more normal, accepting the tragedy that was me.

She was about a hundred years old (hair coiled into a braid on top of her head, granny glasses from before they were "in", etc), & she still thought that lefthandedness was, I don't know, a sin or a disgrace.

not even a disability, but something really shameful.

I think that the administration must have instructed the teachers to leave lefthanders alone, or she would have tried to change me.

so here I am, lefthanded as I can be, ever grateful for Mrs Marx in first grade.

She taught me to read, which has served me well & has brought me much pleasure, & how to write, which has been a joy in my life.

Left handed and very proud of it. I beat out a few infield singles in my day, being 3-4 feet closer to first base while at bat.

My husband is a lefty,in his younger years was involved in auto racing.. years ago we went to a national sprint car race, a big deal, lots of big name drivers were there.
I decided I wanted to get as many autographs from the drivers as I could for a friend. As we went to the racers I began to take notice how many of them were left handed.. there were about 125 diffrent divers, so I would guess in that many there should be 20 to 25 lefties... as it turned out close to 80 % were left handed..I have wondered if lefties are perhaps more adventerous, more likely to take risks or ??? just found it very interesting..

During my days in high school, there were two sets of twins: A pair of girls and a pair of boys. Each set of twins contained a lefty.

My dad was a pertial lefty. He did most things right handed, but preferred to throw left handed.

I am a lefty....lefties do it right. :)

My (late) mother, sister, and 2 of sister's three kids were/are lefties. An interesting fact- Ronald Reagan , Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama are all lefties! My best friend Sue is truly ambidextrous-her signature and handwriting are the same right or left!

Cheri, I don't know about adventurous, but it does seem that lefties are more "variable" than righties.

Most righties are logical & analytical, which means "left-brained".

While lefties may be "right-brained", ie perceptive, verbal, musical, artistic, creative, etc, there's a whole lot more variation in the numbers;
there are more lefties who are like righties than there are righties who are like lefties!

which is the kind of statement that drives truly right-handed, left-brained, logical people nuts!

One of my twin grand-daughters is a leftie as is her mother.
DH golfs & bats left handed, but he is somewhat ambidextrous.
