Another October birthday Happy Birthday Paula
Comments (17)Thank you all, my dear, dear friends. Yesterday we had one of those days here at our house -- no water for 36 hours, Freya sneaking a pizza off the kitchen counter, and the smell of fresh polyurethane pervading the cold, damp house.... On the other hand, I had the loving affection of Tom and my DS Jacob, calls and cards from family, and greetings from all of you. And tonight we're going out to dinner to try celebrate again. Carla, Luanne, Jon, Anita, Lori, Ingrid, Sue, Carolina, Pamela, and Carol -- each one of your messages brought smiles and memories to my mind. I just realized that with the exception of Ingrid, I know each one of you in the Real World (as opposed to online) -- Ingrid, we'll just have to correct that soon. The only birthday wish I have left (besides more rain) is to hope that I get to see you all again as frequently and as soon as may be. Rosefolly...See MorePaula Dean roaster
Comments (7)I'm a really big fan of a lot of Paula's recipes but I have gotten to the point that I just can't watch her shows because of some of the disgusting things she does. In addition to all of the licking and running her fingers through bowls, I can't stand it when she is around any man that's a guest on her show. She's all over them, acting like a 16 year old and making very suggestive comments. Some of her shows should be X rated...lol...See MoreRECIPE: Never Fail Flan
Comments (1)Here's my never fail flan recipe.....from the pink Adobe in Santa Fe. Flan...or creme caramel You need a 1 1/2 qt straight sided dish to make this in...I use a souffle dish Melt 2/3 cup of suger in a sauce pan over medium heat until it turns caramel color. Pour into your baking dish and tilt the dish so it covers the bottom and goes part way up the sides. Set dish aside. In a blender (or you could use a bowl and a mixer) mix: 3 eggs 3 egg yolks 2 t pure vanilla extract 1 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk 1 3/4 c milk 2 oz cream cheese Mix until smooth...pour into prepared dish. Bake in a water bath in a pre-heated 350 oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes clean. You may have to tent it with foil during the last 15 or 20 minutes to keep it from getting too brown. Cool one hour than chill at least several hours...better overnight. Turn upside down on a serving plate...one with sides, the caramel makes a sauce and will run down the sides. Serve in wedges like a cake, topped with strawberries if you want. Water bath: set your baking dish in another larger pan and fill the other pan with boiling water 1/2 up the side of the baking dish....See MoreNever again.. am i just a wimp?
Comments (34)Quite a mixed bag here-- but I will still continue to eat my breasts lol. I absolutely agree that there is a difference in flavor based on where you get your chicken. I have a local store that carries only chicken from a local farm-- and I think it's quite good. If I buy from another store, I either get bell & evans (local but I believe available nationwide) or a local kosher chicken which is generally "cleaner". PA is actually a pretty big producer of both chicken and turkey. There are more options available from small organic farms but they aren't as convenient for me since I don't drive. FWIW I never said it was hard to remove the fat-- I said it was gross....See Moreglenda_al
