What did you have for Father's Day meal??

I wanted this to be a very relaxing day. So last night I got pork chops out of the freezer and put them in the fridge to thaw. Then this morning I put them in the crock pot with 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup and a cut up onion. Then I put on a pot of white riced, and Molly put some green beans to steam and we called it dinner, It was very good, and they are talking about going to Cold Stone Creamery for some dessert later on tonight.

So what did you have for your special meal today???

We had roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, turnip greens, and a salad.

I remember Sudipav and I am sorry you felt so hurt. We are having a family only to celebrate the fathers, mostly my elderly father in law. Normally we have close friends too, but not this time. The party is planned by the grown grandkids and is supposed to be a surprise. Most of the fathers know, and it seems my sistersinlaw and I are making appetizers and I am also doing the salad. The kids are ordering pizza!

What a timely question. I had the most horrid noon meal. Actually I didn't eat it. I went to an event where I paid over 40 dollars to attend. As with most events the meal choices were uninspiring. Salmon ,chicken,veggie lasagna, that sort of thing. I decided the chicken piccata couldn't possibly be too terrible. Boy was I wrong. The whole meal was terrible. I don't know how some ate it and some actually thought it was good. Go figure. This was at a country club. First we got basic sweet french rolls. The kind with the over browned crust that once cool hardens into instant staleness. The butter balls were on the table so long they were melting. When we asked for more butter it was still frozen solid. It wasn't even real butter....just a shade above grill grease. Ick. The salad was a half of a small apple dice on about a 1/4 cup of bagged lettuce mix with a few (again straight from a bag) candied walnuts. Then the chicken...oh my. It was an over breaded "Tyson" chicken cutlet that I believe was either baked or nuked. it had the same consistency of a a breaded TV dinner. There was no piccata about this thing. No lemon flavor, no lemon garnish and certainly no capers. It had some kind of mushroom glop from a can on it. There was a table spoon of white/wild rice that crunched. The only thing edible (to me) was the few frozen green beans on the plate. I gagged down a few bites of chicken. Another lady asked for a box and so did I. They don't give out boxes for fear of being blamed for food illness. BS!! Any problem with the food is already right in their kitchen. I also observed servers holding plates near guests whose costumes (this was a costume event) were hanging right into the plates while they paused to speak to someone. Nothing like letting someones boa brush into someone's salad. Ick Double Ick. So basically I spent 40 plus dollars on frozen food that was poorly prepared and served by I thing either the kids of club members or some caddies. They were not trained wait staff. So tonight I went to a family owned diner and had a nice meal of Soup,lamb chops,baked potato, fresh asparagus and cheesecake. All for under 15 dollars with very nice professional service.

Ancient grain oatmeal from Trader Joe's was my best meal so far. I woke up late today, in the afternoon. Now I'm eating lunch: Sonic jr. cheeseburger, which isn't great. I have some chicken thighs thawing in the fridge and bought some green beans and new red potatoes yesterday at a farmer's market when me and my daughter were running all over town. I mainly went for their peaches, which are usually wonderful, this time they weren't quite ripe. Didn't feel like thawing the chicken in the microwave and cooking the veggies. But am thinking of tossing this awful burger and just eating a peach. Anyway, going to make some of the green beans later with potatoes and onions. Will eat a little for a late night dinner tonight. Tomorrow I'll bake the chicken to go with the rest.

We don't have any "set" time, it depends on the schedules of all involved. Elery and I are retired and so the time is inconsequential to us, but one son in law is a detective, one daughter works midnights at a nursing home, one Granddaughter is working at one of the local restaurants. So, whenever we can sit down together is when the meal is. It's not even always on Thanksgiving Day, it could easily be the weekend sometime. It's the same at Christmas, our family celebration is often between Christmas and New Year's, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. I've never been set on "the day", I can celebrate with my family whenever I can and be happy for it. Annie

We had meatloaf, baked potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots for dinner. Probably the best meatloaf I have ever made. I made up the recipe as I went along.
For dessert we will have fresh berries with some ice cream.
The fruit and vegetables are from Community Supported Agriculture. So good!

I made stir-fry with chicken, prawns, carrots, and broccoli. I also made a vegetarian pizza (I get tired of potatoes and rice) with chopped up peppers, red onion, tomatoes and spinach. And salad.

I know it's a funny combination but my DH is working out of town on a contract M-F right now so I wanted to give him lots of vegies and try to keep it low fat to counteract all the restaurant food he's eating!

Homemade peanut butter cookies for dessert.

We got together with some of my brothers and sisters and our families and spent about 2 hours at the zoo in Bismarck. We used to that quite a bit with our dad on Father's day. There were about 25 of us. Then we went to Texas Road House at 4:00. It was very crowded. My DH and I ordered a combo special. He ordered a steak and I had prime rib. We also got a huge onion blossom for an appetizer, each had a salad, I had broccoli and he had a baked potato. Then we also had a half rack of bbq ribs on the side. Well because we had to wait so long we had eaten peanuts and then the onion blossom and the rolls, we brought all of the meat home after we had each eaten one bite. We still had to drive 3 hours and we didn't want to be uncomfortable coming home. So we have 3 meals left. I could have ordered shrimp instead of the ribs but I thought the ribs would be easier to warm up. It was all very good.

Daughter served grilled porterhouse steak with onions and peppers, a salad of her salad greens fresh from the garden, choice of sweet of white baked potatoes and apple pie ala mode.

I taught this girl well!

Smoked salmon appetizer, chicken kiev, roasted potatoes, asparagus, julienned carrot and turnip, with Tiramisu for dessert. I started a little late so there was a bit of a panic as supper time approached, but I was only 10 minutes later than normal. Phew!

We that went to church had grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, baked beans, tater tots, potato salad, and there was white cake but no one wanted any. Husband was at work so no big meal really.

My brother and I went out to see Dad (just us two, there are six of us total) we parted ways after a couple hours a grilled a beer butt chicken, baked potatoes, salad and Ken made a dessert with a short bread crust, caramel and nut filling and chocolate topping, which was YUMMO!

Matt and Ari came over to see us too, it was a great day.

I ended up cooking for my son, DIL, grandson, and hubby. Hadn't planned on anyone but hubs but was glad son called. He asked for his dad, who wasn't home at the time, then asked what we were doing later in the day. I told him nothing special but that I was cooking fried chicken wings, a favorite of his Dads, and that I was fixing them the way I used to when he little. So HE invited his family over and brought more wings for me to cook. We also had a green salad, white rice, and "green green spring veggies" (an Ina Garten recipe), watermelon and rolls. Then for dessert, strawberry shortcake. Turned out nice, even if I had to cook!

I bet mine is the most different... we grilled chicken, hot dogs, and hamburgers. Sides were baked beans, pasta salad... and now it gets different... steamed rice, pansit, and lumpia with sauce. Desserts were pretty "normal". Daddy always makes a lemon/cheese pie with cherry pie topping. I made triple mocha brownies, there were cheesecake squares (why? Daddy already had his deal?), chocolate meringue pie, and C made her German Chocolate cake. It was so hot, I only ate a piece of chicken, beans, pansit, and lumpia. No dessert. Loads of cold water. I almost fried my phone. Left it in the car. It was too hot to even handle it, literally. A little bit later, it was cooler, but it was giving me an error message. Not until I refrigerated it, did it work again.
