We're having a very lazy, football day in our household....We went out for a late breakfast with friends so our lunch/dinner is "what ever you want, when you want it" and get it yourself, lol.....

DH is having a Schwan's personal pizza (while watching the Steelers) and I'm having crackers with cream cheese and a cup of tea....

Normally, I like to do a roast with spuds and gravy but our temps are too summer like for a big meal...Burgers on the grill would have been good but just too lazy to light the grill.....

A friend and I decided to visit the local arboretum and gardens at 1pm., she had already eaten her lunch but I brown bagged it and had a very nice time. We found some table and chairs in just enough shade and sun to be comfortable. I took a BBQ Pork sandwich, some potato salad, a lemon fry pie and a bottle of Peach Mango Snapple. I was worried the bees would be a nuisance while I ate, but only a couple checked us out and were easily shooed away.

Quite a few others had the same idea today, strolling about the gardens with their families and a few had dogs.

Your pork chop dinner sounds good to me, Sue. I had a cup of homemade vegetable soup and a hot dog. I switch around on what to call my noon day meal.........I grew up calling it dinner, then evening meal supper. I guess I've adapted more to now having 'lunch' at noon.

It's another beautiful day here in Ohio. I'm still trying to invent a way to bottle it up for the winter.

I had the rest of a package of Hillshire Oven Roasted Turkey lunch meat followed by a Little Debbie Harvet cake (Yellow with white frosting)
Yesterday had delicious Chinese at favorite Place so wasn't too hungry today.

Too hot here to put the oven on to cook anything. Hope cold weather gets here soon rain would be nice too

I warmed up some leftover cellophane noodles dish from a local Thai restaurant. It tasted quite vinegar-y, moreso than I remember at the restaurant. So I ate the meat and some of the veggies and threw out the bulk of it. (We polished off the really tastey dishes at the restaurant.) I just may warm up some homemade minestrone mid afternoon if it doesn't get too hot today.

After church, I always go to lunch with friends. I had a slice of pizza and a Diet Coke.

it was more brunch for us, we had scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast.

I think dinner will be subway sandwiches I am taking advantage of them being $5 each this month.

The other night, I made Rachael Ray's "No Peeking Peking Chicken" (it's on her website and in her magazine, i think the current one) in the crock pot -- put some salted/peppered chicken pieces in, then mix up a soy/honey/ginger/scallion sauce and slow-cook on low for 4 hours. The chicken (I used bone-in breasts) was very moist, of course, but didn't really pick up much of the sauce's flavor. Microwaved some rice, added "pulled" chicken and topped it with the sauce (make extra sauce if you try the recipe!).

Had leftovers for lunch--tasty!

Marilyn: Is it always called "dinner" if the meal is around noon? Or just on Sundays?

We'd had a busy morning here--got up at 6, because we were having a showing of the house at 10:30 (and we'd been away for a couple of days, so had a LOT of 'spiffing' to do.)

Once the potential buyers left, we were able to finally slow down and relax. Luckily, after I'd cooked our pasta for last night's dinner, I tossed a couple of eggs in the hot water. So lunch was egg salad on Italian rolls and potato chips. Not fancy, but quick and we were hungry.

What a timely question. I had the most horrid noon meal. Actually I didn't eat it.

I went to an event where I paid over 40 dollars to attend. As with most events the meal choices were uninspiring. Salmon ,chicken,veggie lasagna, that sort of thing.

I decided the chicken piccata couldn't possibly be too terrible. Boy was I wrong. The whole meal was terrible. I don't know how some ate it and some actually thought it was good. Go figure.

This was at a country club. First we got basic sweet french rolls. The kind with the over browned crust that once cool hardens into instant staleness. The butter balls were on the table so long they were melting. When we asked for more butter it was still frozen solid. It wasn't even real butter....just a shade above grill grease. Ick.

The salad was a half of a small apple dice on about a 1/4 cup of bagged lettuce mix with a few (again straight from a bag) candied walnuts.

Then the chicken...oh my. It was an over breaded "Tyson" chicken cutlet that I believe was either baked or nuked. it had the same consistency of a a breaded TV dinner. There was no piccata about this thing. No lemon flavor, no lemon garnish and certainly no capers. It had some kind of mushroom glop from a can on it.

There was a table spoon of white/wild rice that crunched.

The only thing edible (to me) was the few frozen green beans on the plate. I gagged down a few bites of chicken.

Another lady asked for a box and so did I. They don't give out boxes for fear of being blamed for food illness. BS!! Any problem with the food is already right in their kitchen.

I also observed servers holding plates near guests whose costumes (this was a costume event) were hanging right into the plates while they paused to speak to someone. Nothing like letting someones boa brush into someone's salad. Ick Double Ick.

So basically I spent 40 plus dollars on frozen food that was poorly prepared and served by I thing either the kids of club members or some caddies. They were not trained wait staff.

So tonight I went to a family owned diner and had a nice meal of Soup,lamb chops,baked potato, fresh asparagus and cheesecake. All for under 15 dollars with very nice professional service.

Wildchild....that country club meal sounded miserable.... I like country club food generally speaking....when the chefs are working. :0) Big diff. right!

I made cheesey potato soup and topped it with croutons. Yum!
