I like the general layout, but have a couple of questions.

Are you going to have enough dishes to fill the two dishwashers to run at the same time? I'm assuming one is for the cooking are and one for the plates and such? I think I would rather have two dishwashers so I could alternate clean and dirty, but both be close to where the dishes are. I'm sure you thought about what works best for you, but wanted to ask anyways.

Do you do any baking? If so maybe you could make part of the island top a baking station with a different material such as marble and at a slightly lower height than normal counter height for better work space unless you are tall.

Is the cabinet above the fridge counter depth or regular wall depth? A counter depth would allow you better access to it and make the fridge look more built in.

How come you don't have the prep sink in the island? It seems like the perfect spot for it to not be facing a cabinet and be able to have great light above you for seeing.

I forgot, but don't know if it applies. will the sub-zero generate a lot of heat? If so I'd be a bit worried about the wine being next to it.

Lyfia, The dishwasher that is next to the stove will be the 2 drawer type. I am thinking it will be great for prep dishes, but also thinking of the smaller loads I can alternate clean and dirty like you say. My husband and I both do cooking. We both prep. I cook and he does the dinner plate clean up. So I was thinking the dishwasher by the double sink would be for the dinner dishes which he could be loading out of my way on other side of island. The wine storage will be the refrigerated style. I am thinking a counter above with hanging glasses. I will attach a pictures of the elevations. I know what you mean about the sink on the wall, my thinking on that is we have one in the island now and I always thought it got in the way when I am laying out a pretty buffet meal. So I thought I am using it to wash vegetables and thought maybe it would be just as easy to wash them there and turn around and cut them on the island. So sorry first image is so big. I did resize it, about 15 times! No I don't do baking on a regular basis.

In our last house, I separated the dishwashers into the areas I thought I'd use them. Big mistake. If one is full, it's all the way to the other to find it a place...Lots of shifting between the 2 to get everything to fit just right, usually requiring 2 people to make an inefficient process work as well as possible. Then things are always in the wrong one or unloaded into the wrong area of the kitchen. Sometimes 1 would get run regularly, while the lesser used one sat, with forgotten dirty dishes rapidly getting moldy and smelly inside. It is a good theory, but for us, it was a miserable failure in actual practice. I highly recommend against it and keeping cleanup things in a cleanup zone.

Will you have a full sized freezer in the pantry? I would want a larger fridge, but maybe with the drawers, you'll have enough.

Your layout is a bit spread out, just because it's so luxuriously large, but the placements of things look good, and I think I'm probably going to lust after your kitchen when it's done. It looks WONderful and very nicely appointed.

I would have put the sink in the island, especially because your island is so long. I'd place it 12" in from the fridge end. That way you'll have some landing room for stuff out of the fridge, but you'll still have 7.5' of uninterupted island. If your prep sink does move, consider placing the DWs on either side of the main sink. Now that I have two DWs, I've discovered that no matter what I'm looking for, it's always in the second DW that I look in. Besides, if your main prep space is the island, it'll be a breeze to push the prep dishes across the island to be loaded in the DWs.

Another reason to move the prep sink: the only place you have for a landing space for things coming out of your ovens is next to the range where the prep sink currently is. Carrying a hot turkey all the way to the island is a long way, especially in the traffic pathway between the backdoor and great room.

Having the wine fridge next to the regular fridge is not a problem. Instead of hanging stemware under the cabinet, consider lengthening the cabinet and using glass doors, then store the glassware in there. The hanging glasses look nice in theory, but in reality, they collect dust very quickly.

In general, I think you have a great layout.

Nice kitchen how exciting - going to the real life state

before I noticed the prep sink i was concerned about the expanse fridge to sink because that is a frequent - then based on some of the above suggestions re: moving the sink to the island - the sink closest to the fridge will likely be the most used.

I would agree w/the comments about the 2 DW's - I have friends who have 2 but irl they use only 1 - for reasons as noted above.

How will the cooktop be ventilated? Are you going through the roof, downdraft or other - Cooktop on an exterior wall would have made ventilation a little easier

are you doing any seating at the island?

where is the greatest volume of traffic flow - I'm assuming fr. back door area through the narrower side opening to great room ?

The refrig side of the room has a lot going on and an expanse of all the tall things - just wondering to break it up a little, consider doing the china cab as a corner one in the great room - additionally I don't see any landing spot for fridge (unless little one where wine fridge is located?), micro or ovens - I would try to get some counter in that area

Thank you all for the nice comments. I am so excited. This is my first time doing a remodel and the last.Lots of good points made, now I am going to have to rethink some of this, darn it! LOL Thats all I have been doing for the last 2 years and driving my husband crazy. I dont think I can get him to talk about it ANYMORE! I see the point about the dishwashers, Ok how about putting 1 dish drawer with the other dishwasher? LOL I dont know why I think it would be really great to turn around and throw in a bowl, measuring, pan into a close by so not walking around to the other side. I wish the china cabinet could go into the dinning room but there is no room, its small. I agree about the wine glasses getting dusty, the last thing I want to do is dust anything. The reason I had the idea of the seperate counter area was because the china isnt that big.Each door will be narrowere than the wine fridge, so I didnt know how to make it look right with three doors being unequal sizes. The refrigerator that is shown is the all refrig from sub zero. I have planned the refrg/freezer door in the island and I do have an upright just outside the backdoor for the main storage. My husband wants me to put in another ref/freezer drawer on other side of kitchen for drinks and ice but I thought that was excessive. I am worried I will miss the sink in the island, its a big concern. I was thinking the fridge landiing and oven landing would be on that end of the island and thought the sink would get in the way. The other end is where I have planned to have seating.

Forgot to mention it is 25 feet long including nook and I think 16 feet wide. The ceiling is 10feet. I think there is 45-48" wide on either side of island and almost 6 feet between island and fridge. Seating is planned on the side opposite of the range top.

48" is tight to fit in seating. Generally, you can count on seating taking up 24", and then you need to allow for traffic to flow behind that.

The island is kinda far for a fridge landing spot. However, my island is 5' and change away from the fridge and it's our preferred landing spot. It may work for you, but be sure of it before you sign on the dotted line.

The island is too far from the ovens for landing, no doubt about it. Again, moving the prep sink could remedy that situation.

You can keep both DDs, or choose a single DD depending on your dish usage. It's just DH and me right now and we have no trouble finding uses for both of our DWs.

I agree about moving the sink so that you have a landing space for the ovens. The prep sink location bothered me the first time I glanced at the plan, but I didn't know why...Maybe that's it. If you have it in a foot or a little more from the end, you'll still have a good space at the end of the island.

I totally missed that you had overhang on your island for seating. I had imagined it as a fantastic, working island (storage from both sides) and that your only seating would be in the nook. I would hate seating in the midst of the kitchen work areas like that, especially, as Alku05 said, with aisles that don't really allow room. Sitters and possible seat backs being in the way of work getting done would irritate me. Plus, recommended overhang for counter-ht seating is 15" for adequate leg room, so you're a big short in that, too, if I'm guessing correctly that the island is 3 ft wide. If it were me, which it's not ;-), I'd consider overhangs at each end of the island for a kitchen visitor or two, or a place for a seated prep person...but in a place they'd be out of the main aisles.

Originally the architect had the double ovens where I put the prep sink. I see how it would be more useful there. When I saw the elevations I didnt like how it closed in the kitchen on that end since they come out to the edge of counter and it blocked out that whold corner section of the kitchen. Sitting at the island I know is a tight fit. We were thinking of putting backless stools pushed under the counter most of the time. The only time we eat in the kichen is breakfast, and a quick dinner. Again architect had seating at both ends but I eliminated the side by the fridge because my men like to watch TV and eat. I don't have it shown there but I thought I would push the island down closer to the fridge, maybe a foot, that would come to around that dotted line. I will post the drawing I made to include a butcher end table I fooled around with in case I cant get a granite slab that long. But then it will elminate the sink there.{{!gwi}}

I think the sink on the island makes much more sense. You will have good lighting and use your kitchen better than being stuck up against the kitchen cabinets like I am in our new house to prep (I miss my old kitchen).

For buffet time, get a nice faucet and sink that looks less utilitarian (but is functional too) and maybe use the sink to hold ice with beverages stuck in it.
