Have you considered going to a KD and getting some input? It seems like you're having a tough time deciding on a layout...

Ive been following your posts :) I like this one. It defines the main areas and has an open feel. Is the table too squashed though? You still keeping a round table? Are your dishes staying on the left side?

Sorry, but I don't see anything I like with this layout. The left and right sides are not as separate as you might think. Work flow would essentially create an X - frig to prep and cook to clean-up. There is not much landing space on the left side of the cook top. The main flow of foot traffic is in the middle of the kitchen. Are you giving up using the current laundry room for any kitchen space?

bbtondo... I'm not deciding on a layout yet. I'm trying to come up with a few viable options to go over with DH for a largely DIY remodel... as much as possible that is. I'm so visual, that I need to see it on paper to assess it.

twogirls... I've reconciled I may need to switch out the table to an extension type. I won't let the table drive the layout.

cotehele... I like the direct feedback. It helps. I'm not sure why you say I won't have enough space to the left of the cooktop. I was messin' around with different corners which may be why I didn't change the color to show the 36" blind corner. I'd have that and a 12" pullout to the left of the cooktop. That doesn't change the fact that it may be a poorly functioning kitchen.

I think I'm trying to find ways to fit in all features I want and all the materials I love. Thanks for taking the time!!

I have not seen your other layouts or any limitations and criteria you may have previous posted, but have you considered moving the kitchen to the room where the dining table is shown? That space appears to have more wall area. It would allow you to have your work surfaces and work triangle more centralized, instead of spread out as in your layout. To me, the separation of your work spaces would mean a lot of extra steps back and forth.

Not that crazy over this one. Is there a reason that I missed that you want an overhang for sitting when you plan on having a table w/ seating so close?

Reviewing some of your previous posts, it sounds like you are most fond of the galley layout. Why not stick w/ that one and try tweaking to the extent it will make you happy (after all, it IS your kitchen!). It also seemed like your SO/DH would get to keep his sunroom intact w/ that one so he should be willing to compromise on any plumbing & electrical work that would have to be done to make it work!

It's complicated modernhouse and I'm limited by several things but the room is all very large windows and I don't want to give them up or change them out, Making the sunroom the kitchen wouldn't really work but thanks for the thought.

cotehele... I forgot to say that no option is out... I can consider anything I want if I can make it work.

The galley is definitely my favorite. I wanted another option in case I encounter strong resistance. But you're right regarding the compromise.

Oh, you are right, I missed the blind corner. I thought the gap was an odd layout. Well, you would have plenty of room!

You have had many others much better than this one. If you're going to separate the cooking and baking zones from the cleanup zone, the fridge should be with the cooking area. For a one-person kitchen, you should be after efficiency. I struggle a little in my kitchen because of things being spread out, but for me it's a compromise that's worth it to have room for 4 or more people working in there at once a lot of the time.

Well... that's why I post to get unbiased and honest feedback. Now, I know to cross this concept off and stick with the some version on the other thread or the galley.

I should have said, "If I had a one-person kitchen, I would aim for efficiency." I shouldn't be telling you what YOU should want! I happen to like galleys, though, just for that reason...Everything at an arm's length, or just a couple steps, and stretches of countertop on each side.

Oh gee rhome... you oughta know me well enough by now to say anything in anyway you so choose. You've been so patient and your input is invaluable.

I keep trying different combinations to find the one or two that are function friendly and give me:
1. expanse of countertop
2. open feel
3. keeping it reasonable to please both parties.

I don't like this one. There are far too many compromises in it.

I've noticed that your last few layouts have gone back to having an eating bar. Are you sure you need one with additional seating so close? Where would the tv go in this layout?

Never apologize for putting out another layout. I think all us TKOers like playing with walls and boxes. I need to figure out how to sell DH on design software when we're already way beyond needing it for our house just so I can play with other people's layouts.

I'm not sold on an eating bar though I'd like one as a good spot to put two of my extra dining chairs. If I can work a table height one in, that would be great. It's not a priority like expanse of counter space on either side of the cooktop and a marble baking area. And if I can work in some end grain BB... I'd be in heaven. I can find other wall space of the guest bedroom to place a chair if I have to. What do you guys think of the last one of my other thread?
