Can you post a picture, it would be helpful. I personally would not paint the family room all red if the dining room is red, I think that would be too much. What color is your sofa?

Yes, it would definitely help to see your sofa color and how the rooms are open to each other. I agree with Roseabbey...that would be too much red.

You need to decide how you feel about the sight lines, going from room to room. Theoretically, I think the WM and GW would look fine together, as would the G and the WM. The question is - how do you feel about darker and lighter colors abutting? Some people "need" to have all the walls a similar depth of color to feels comfortable going from room to room. Others like the change from light to dark, room to room.

Here is an example of a deep tan/gold like yours, followed by cream, then a mid-tone mossy green, and finally a paler blue-green. This is LR, foyer, den, bedroom. Lots depends on the ambient light in each room, too. The den in this pic received very little natural light. The bedroom was flooded by western sun in the afternoons.

Thank you for responding. I will try to post pictures later. It is dreary today and rainy so pictures may not accurately portray the colors. My sofa is leather in a burnished walnut color. I do have both lighter colors and deeper colors throughout my home. I'll get the pictures done and you all can give me your opinions. Thank you.

amysqr, what is the name of the deep gold in the den. I might be looking for a deep gold for my powder room. thanks

Amysqr--I love your colors and the way they look together. You have a beautiful home by the way. Can I ask what your mossy paint color is? I will be posting pics tonight but my lighting is not good . Other colors that may work are nantucket gray or louisburg green off the same strip. My kitchen cabs are dark green also which throws another variable in there. Thanks.

The family room lies between the kitchen and master bedroom. In these pics the guesthouse looks okay with the sofa but in daylight, it seems off somehow. Want to do away with accent wall. I love the wethersfield moss color but need to know honest opinions about how it will look from views into bedroom (gray wisp) and kitchen (guesthouse) Kitchen has dark cabs on base cabs. Please give me any and all suggestions.

Sis, this thread has now become almost impossible to deal with because of the way the pics are posted. When I open a thread that needs to be scrolled across like this, I don't bother. Just to let you know, there will be little "new" action on this, IME.

To answer your original question, I don't see a problem using the WM with the GW seen in the distance. As I said in my earlier post, everyone has a different set of tolerances (as funcolors calls them) for what they need/like/want. In the picture I showed you from my last house, I was happy going dark-light-dark-light. There is no universal answer. You need to figure out what you need/want/like.

You are already on that path of color-self-discovery in that you have decided you don't like what you have now. Your home is really very beautiful and I am sure you will be able to figure this out. Do the big swatches, makes sure the WM looks good with your sofa, blah, blah, blah. You know what to do. :-)

I am not sure how these pics ended up like this and I realize it makes it really difficult to follow. I did buy a small can of wm yesterday and plan to paint a big swatch. Thanks for answering even though it was hard to follow. Thank you.

One trick I learned from bellaflora is to paint a swatch behind a piece of artwork. You can take the painting down and look at the color. Then hang the picture back up and return to a "normal" life. Other people like to paint a large sheet of poster board or similar. I personally have blobs of paint on my walls. Not very nice! ;-)

If you want to chat about the WM, start a new thread and just post one picture at a time until you get the posting thing figured out. There is a test forum for practicing with the photos...
