Eh, if your son likes orange and navy, then go for it. I like the idea of adding either different curtains or a different rug, or if you're not wedded to the comforter, then something that doesn't contrast so much with the walls. You can easily get different colored baskets for the storage unit, I see them everywhere. That would be inexpensive. I'd figure out what was cheapest to replace and use that as my guide for the direction of the color palette, choosing something maybe a little lighter. I think it is all that dark navy that is hitting you so hard visually.

If you find lighter colored drapes or shades they should help blend the colors together a bit.

I agree with comments above, maybe a more fun rug with more contrast, consider changing the wall color also to lighten and brighten :-) Kids like bright and cheery surroundings, so I think what is bothering you is the more dark aspect of the overall look. good luck!

Thanks all! I just threw out the comforter bag but I could turn it to the navy blue side and return the curtains and 4ug and switch out the baskets. I have SUCH a hard time finding the right curtains and rug. I’m already getting anxious and feeling defeated!

It won't be hard to pull it together. Turn the comforter over to the navy and I would return the drapes and rug...see ideas below..a much younger and lighter feel to the room. The rug can contain all of the colors in the room - navy, green and light blue. If you can extend the rod or get a new one so that the drapes rest on the wall vs the window, as this allow more light into the room. Add a sports poster of his favorite sport or team. Can the bookcase be centered under the window and bed coming out from the wall?

Most places would take a return on the comforter even if you don't have the bag, as long as you still have the receipt.

Look for curtains and rug that have navy and/or green in them. The wall color should be repeated in the room.

If you want to keep the storage units and baskets, they can be spray painted. There is a spray paint for everything, and lots of different colors.

I think you would end up spending less if you just bought a gallon or two of new paint even though you just painted. We often say, it is just paint and you can redo it if you hate it. Then, everything else would work.

I hear you regarding the paint but I actually like cawaps photo above and I think if I put up some wall art, it might work. Hubby just had surgery and I work full time and have two active boys and 0 help so I will not be able to find the time to paint...unfortunately :(

Yes, that will be far easier plan to implement and the sage green paint should be very easy to work with while still keeping it masculine. For such a small room, I would stay away from dark window treatments.

I would go with a a light solid color comforter and add color with some fun funky pillows and rug. I would pick a color or color combo from the rug.

Would the room look even better with the headboard against a wall? I'm thinking that the bed could go along the window, with enough room to operate the curtains. The headboard on the wall where you have the Batter/Catcher/Pitcher picture.

I love the rug in there and how it ties in with the baskets, wall, etc., but if it were me I'd still exchange the bedding because it would drive me crazy to see the striped side when the bed is unmade (which it is 99% of the time in my son's room). With the bed made the navy works. I would also exchange the drapes for something lighter, but that's just personal preference; I love lighter window treatments! I'm boring and would probably do white, but think a pattern with coordinating colors could look great too. I love the baseball art in there; it's perfect!

What was it he liked about the new rug? Color, softness, newness?

The only thing that doesn't work color wise are the square cloth baskets. Find Navy and orange...

Is one curtain grommet and one panel with a rod pocket top? If so I would change to all one way or the other.
