Do my bedroom and bathroom colors have to coordinate?

My master bedroom is painted BM's dry sage, and the linens are cream with dark brown accents. I would love to paint our master bath a grayish blue color- I've been looking at BM's Beach Glass, Mount St Anne or SW's Silvermist. I was going to do cream towels and rugs and add in some green and brown accents. Since the dry sage has gray tones, I thought this would work well.

A friend told me that my paint colors need to coordinate and flow better than that. You enter our master bath through double doors, so you can see quite a bit of it from the bedroom.

Any advice for me? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with BM's Dry Sage -- but most paints with 'Sage' in the name tend to be a yellowish green that's been greyed down as opposed to a blueish green that's greyed. So a blueish grey could fight unless you find a way to tie them together. Or not -- could be fine or even lovely.

I've seen some prints (art or fabric) that combine aqua and olive with gold and brown. That might be the bridge you need to bring the colors together.

Help me layout my mater bathroom & bedroom with load bearing wall

We are remodeling our house and building an addition. We are wanting to expand and redo our master bathroom and bedroom in addition to a few other things. Right now I have a load bearing wall going through the area we have to work with, an I do not want to completely move it. They're are 8 ft ceilings in this area. The entrance to the bedroom area is on the load bearing wall and we could do one more door way either leading to the bathroom or closet area etc. I am attaching a pic. The two large rectangles are the spaces we can use for the master areas. Anyone have any ideas for how we could make this a master bedroom and bath without crossing that middle wall (labeled 17ft) too many times? You see the bedroom entrance to the left of the pantry. We COULD enter this area from the right of the pantry (making a short little hallway where it jogs back. The large opening below the pantry opens to the kitchen dining and great room. To the right even further we have a mudroom/powder room. Let me know if this doesn't make sense! It's quite a big area!

B. M November Rain for the bedroom and bathroom. Paint the vanity B.M. Blue Echo. Use the same teal color for bedding. Then on the bathroom wall (toilet paper) hang a piece of art you love that works with colors.

I can see a light tan/cream or "greige" in there, which are neutral enough to take through all the spaces but not boring. We did that on a friend's recommendation and it made the rooms look larger and brighter and more cohesive. Large artwork or wall papering a wall can add interest here and there. Or going one shade darker in the bedroom. Something like that. However, test some colors! It appears you have warm wood floors so finding a neutral that doesn't clash means test painting some sections of wall with a few colors first (near the floor), and standing back to compare them against the floor as light changes throughout the day. Neutrals can really change as the light changes. I just finished painting kitchen cabinets and it took me forever to settle on a color but having a few samples helped. I was able to eliminate a couple right away that looked great on the strip and not so great with the backsplash and counters in my kitchen. BTW: I also have paneling in my bathroom. After seeing a photo in a magazine of bead board painted in "minimal contrast" with the walls, I painted the paneling in very pale yellow, put bright white on the trim between, and painted the upper walls in a cream color (an even lighter version of the yellow). That "slight contrast" worked great and I love it now. The paneling is not overwhelming but the architectural elements are still evident. It might be the contrast you don't like. Just a thought. I really would not do the wood accent feature in your house. I think it can limit furniture placement and is not easily reversible without a lot of scraping spackling and sanding. At least with wallpaper, if the wall is properly primed and sized you can remove it down to the wall surface without damaging the wall fairly easily. I also think based upon your other projects that your house is maybe too sophisticated for it. The big place I see it is on flipping TV shows were they are trying to get big impact for very little money and trying to avoid having something "too taste specific" like art or a wallcovering. It's a little low-end in your case, and in general the idea is at it's sell by __ date in my opinion. Still cute in certain place, but not here. If budget is not really a major concern, Phillip Jeffries, Thibaut and Schumacher all make nice wallcoverings including some murals. Phillip Jeffries has a lot of great grasscloths and other natural papers. If you like things a little offbeat, look at Cole and Sons

I agree with sweeby, it could work if you put a touch of the gray blue in the bedroom and a touch of the sage in the bath.

I love Beach Glass, my son's room is painted that color and it is going somewhere else in the house too!

We have silvermist in our bedroom and masterbath (also accessible through double doors), and I think I love this color more every year... just a wonderful feel about it.

I personally do not like the two together. But, this is your private space. If it is pleasing to your eye than that is all that matters.

I would do it, it's your private area and it should make you happy. It's not like a panel or decorators are going to come in and say tsk tsk. I feel decorating should be a reflection of what gives you happiness. When you're lolling in a tub and looking at your beautiful space is the reward for going for it. If you like, just cross pollinate a few items, that always works for a cohesive look.

If the colors are reading accurately on my monitor, I think the Dry Sage works with either of the two darker shades, but NOT with the Silvermist, which I think will go 'too aqua' when it's actually up on the wall.

Of course, I'd still like to see some sort of patterned object (picture, fabric) that ties the two shades together --

On my monitor, Dry Sage plays very well with Beach Glass. I agree that you should do whatever makes you happy in this space! These are all such gorgeous colors, by the way!

Actually there is not so much as a hint of aqua in the Silver Mist -though it looks that way on my monitor, in the photo of the bed. The bath pictures are pretty accurate. Beach glass does have aqua in it -I previewed that color for this bed/bath actually.

Angelantix, what did you end up going with in your bedroom/bath? I am in the same predicament now and have looked at all your colors. I'm thinking of weekend getaway for the bedroom and looking for a bathroom color, would love to do beach glass but not sure it will coordinate. Now I'm thinking I should do a neutral in the bedroom and a blue or green in the bathroom. Would love to know how it turned out and if anyone has suggestions for a neutral bedroom color. Our trim is cream and my bedding has I guess like a rust'ish color with green and teal and a little gold in it.
