I also need to figure out backsplash. I really like the Casa Dolce Case Vetro and I have ordered a sample but I still have not received it. I may do calacatta subway in a 3 x 6 but it is pretty pricey. (see sample) Thoughts on backsplash? Thanks!

We ordered two mini pendants - they are from Wilmette Lighting - they are called Pullman - that we love. They are low-voltage halogen and we have them on a dimmer. They are vintage looking - have prismatic glass which diffuses the light so we have light on larger areas rather than spots of light. This picture has them on a low light so you can see the glow:

I also have white cabs - so you may like the look. My counters are soapstone but these pendants would look beautiful in your kitchen if you like a more retro look.

Nanjeanne, your kitchen is lovely. I will take a look at those pendants.

I remembered that many people have used this site. I learned about it here. The prices look really good and it seems to have great reviews as far as backsplashes.

That's a really pretty kitchen, it's going to look so complete and lovely once the lights are installed. What nanjeanne suggests is a nice style, but I would try to find something that makes a bit more of a statement. For your island, something along the lines of the Troy Discus pendant would be nice and would go well with the white cabs also.

Also, I really like your selection of marble as the backsplash. Have you also looked at strip-straw marble backsplashes?

Thanks for the suggestions! I will be getting my Vetro B/S sample today (there was a mix up with the supplier.) I really hope I like it because I am really getting kitchen reno fatigue and don't want to keep searching for the right B/S. It's been chaos juggling work, kids and dragging my kids to endless trips to Home Depot, granite, lighting, etc. stores!! Fortunately, we have a much needed vacation next week!

The discus pendant is nice, but at 10" in diameter, I think a bit big for my kitchen. Any other ideas? I have no clue what I even like in pendants?? I am considering a brushed nickel b/c of the hardware/SS appliances but also think maybe something glass or crystal would be nice. any other suggestions??? Thanks!!

I am an ABB also (all but backsplash) - I am not liking the marble for a backsplash so looking forward to seeing some other choices.

Have you looked at Hubbardton Forge for pendants lights. They have beautiful lights and extremely well made. We used HF in our kitchen - they have a few modern pendants but most are not modern.

I like the vetro!

Here is another idea for you. This one is described as classically modern. It is from Tech Lighting. According to the specs this pendant is only 5.5 inches wide. I have a different model of Tech with glass and a diffuser and it gives off very nice light.

Oh I see, smaller then. Definitely check out the Naples collection of pendants by Hudson Valley. They're glass, which I think would look great in your bright kitchen, and come in a few variations/shapes but keep to the 2-3" range.

I instantly thought "school house" pendant light when I saw your kitchen. But I do like the other suggestions above.

since these are "industrial pendants" it's probably a no, but I think they are classic.

I think if you want to stick to something classic and stay away from that metallic/industrial niche then going with a lantern, a drum pendant or a school house pendant would be the best option.

I definitely think schoolhouse or nanjeanne's would be lovely, but I'm biased because I tend not to like fixtures with bulbs I can see - not sure why. How tall are your ceilings? It's hard to tell.

I've been looking, too, for my not-white kitchen. Tech lighting seems to have a lot of variety.
