Any lighting & backsplash ideas for new kitchen would be appreciated!

If so, I think that's all you need. You could put them on a dimmer for dining. I think your nook is crying out for a larger chandelier. It needs something with height as well as width. I don't see a place for backsplash besides the little coffee niche, but that's so full you won't even see the backsplash. I think the biggest improvement you could make is change the paint. The light tan color is reading yellow and isn't doing much for the white cabinets, floor, or the fireplace. The fireplace is really the only thing making your home feel traditional, so you might whitewash the brick and change the mantel. Ericakn, would you recommend a basic ivory subway, or something else? You summarized my thoughts well, Czarinalex. I normally skip over mosaics when shopping because I do not like the high contrast or flashiness of most. I think that is the same reason I did not like the carrara herringbone sample I set up at home...it looked fine with the granite, but it had nothing to really coordinate or complement the cabinets...so too much contrast for me. Ultimately, we would like to cover the brick fireplace in the FR with stacked stone, so even though I did not go looking for mosaic, I am hoping this particular tile shape on the backsplash would also be a good option to tie the FR and kitchen together. Inspiration pic for FR fireplace (maybe different stone colors, have not shopped yet): Thanks, everyone! Keep the ideas coming!...See MoreNeed more contemporary pendant lights for kitchen
Comments (10)Hi Jamie, hope the search is going well. Just a couple of considerations when selecting your fixtures- remember that the direction and quality of light is very important for functionality and atmosphere. It is important to try to get some light on the cabinetry to expand the sense of space and create openness. If your husband does not want to see the exposed lamps you could also consider some diffused lighting fixtures. In this case you are depending on some directional recessed down-lights to sufficiently illuminate your work surface- so the diffused light creates a glow and warm atmosphere without creating a shadow cast elsewhere. One other consideration should be the colour temperature of the lamps (bulbs) themselves- stick with LED 2700K colour temperature whenever possible as this will give you balanced and consistent light quality with the rest of your home and will harmonize with natural daylight colour temperatures especially in the afternoon and evening. The following are some examples where we used multiple layers of light to ensure a consistent shadow free lighting plan- Recessed down-lights in concert with Pendant Lights, under cabinet lights, valence lights and 'In Cabinet' lights- hope this helps contextualize your lighting plans......See MoreBacksplash and Pendant Help Please

LeeLee -- I really need help choosing the brass fixtures. I always see the one you posted but it just reminds me too much of a ball and chain. haha...See MoreUser
