Backsplash and Pendant Help Please
I planned to use Silver Crackle tile as a backsplash and extend around the window and over it. However, there is no room once the molding around the window goes up.
Should I stop the backsplash half way? Should there be a break in backsplash and go up to ceiling, but none on sides of window? Should I Use a skinny window molding on the sides so that some of the backsplash can fit?
I also need opinions about pendants. I always wanted to add brass pendants because I love gold tones and thought the white kitchen would need warming up. However, it doesn't seem cold at all to me here. I also wanted to add a brass light over the kitchen table to match the pendants. Everything I like is way too large for my stumpy 8' ceilings. I don't like industrial styles. Any thoughts?

Redroze - I saw the two you posted on TOCL website today and really like both. I am planning on contacting them tomorrow. Here is my question, do you think this light from Rejuvenation is close enough to the top picture in your last post? The one from Rejuvenation is a little cheaper and I've seen it in person in satin nickel, but I'm not as crazy about the extra "balls" and "bulbs" on the rods. The one from TOCL seems simpler to me and might be worth the extra couple of hundred of dollars. Or would no one notice the difference? I swear I'm not normally this picky and usually can find lots of things I like, but for some reason now I feel like this stupid light has to be just perfect since I've already returned one. I should just had my electrician do two electrical boxes, but now the one is centered in the ceiling and he would have to cut two new holes and patch the old one. Comments (28)I can see why it might be advisable to remove the left/rt portions of tile, but I would be inclined to wait until ithe kitchen is completed before deciding. If, as your gut tells you, it "needs" to come down, nothing is really lost except a little more time with it up. Perhaps knowing you are not "locked-in" or committed to it, will help give the perspective to view it more objectively while deciding for sure. This way you will not only have the chance to see it with everything else in place, but you will also have the opportunity to get used to it, before deciding if you truly dislike it, or just haven't gotten used to it being there. As subtle (in color) as our tile is, after months of looking at white painted Sheetrock, it still looked "different" and stood out when we looked at our kitchen. Once we became accustomed to it, we couldn't imagine our walls without it. That's how I am with many things--after living with a blank wall or empty space for any period of time, even a long awaited piece of furniture or decor item jumps out at me, and almost seems like too much, until I get used to the vacant space being filled. Thanks for the compliments on our backsplash Laura and andreak100! It's the Opera Glass tile from Artistic Tile (Stilatto pattern) in Wolfgang White. It does read greenish-blue(-grey) in certain lights or times of day. We had to think about that one while deciding if we wanted to use it, and obviously decided to go for it! Good luck Laura! Comments (4)Sorry it took me a while to get back..was out of town. The paint in the dining room is a soft white, not bright, more like a vanilla. Here is the floor. The floor in the dining room is hardwood oak. Also, I think I might like these for over the counter lights. See the link below. Comments (1)The layout needs some work could you post a to scale floor plan to get that right first/ as for the other choices I do not like the handles IMO they look cheap and have no connection to any of the other choices You need proper lighting and no fan in a kitchen so pot lights or track in LEDs 4000K before making any color choices. Black faucets show every water drop and again not sure whay black. I very raprely like 2 toned kitchens so it would be good to see the space too....See More

5 years agoPersonally, I would do more of a silver tone pendant b/c of your hood. I know brass is really in now, and I like it too, but I am a matchy matchy kind of person. And, you have a lot going on with white cabinets, different color island, silver hood, etc. Just my opinion, though, it is your house! I think on the backsplash, I would just tile up the height of the underside of cabinets. I had a similar situation in my old kitchen and that is that is what I did. You could hang a Roman shade that covers the space between the window and crown molding. Overall, your kitchen is beautiful! I love the curved detail on your glass cabinets and the island color. What is it, by the way? My island is navy blue (BM Newburyport Blue). Here are my pendants. We have lower then 8 foot ceilings!

5 years agoYou do not have to have molding around the window. You can use tile instead. I was trying to eliminate as much of my hated trim color as possible so I chose to tile everything in the sink area including the jam extensions. Pardon the mess..we are baking:

5 years agoMy window trim also meets up with the side cabinets. I just did tile under the window and painted that section above. Initially it was painted the same color as the cabinets and just blended in. So much so that I forgot about it and it got painted over when we did the walls a new color. I liked it better when it blended in but I still never notice it, until moments like now when I’m dissecting it haha.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoDon't go boring with all chrome or nickel or stainless. Mix your metals. So much more interesting. Looks less contrived and more natural.
These pendants might look fab in your kitchen.

4 years agoWe just did mercury glass pendants with our 8’ ceilings and I love them-a little different and warmer than chrome.
