Help me with living room, please (images)

I am terrible at decorating or knowing where to place things in a room. We just moved into a new place and I want to make it cozy. So far, it's a mess.

Here are virtual 3D images (and real ones) of what my living room/family room currently looks like. The end table in the virtual simulation is higher than in reality. And I couldn't find a way to put in the trunks (see photos) into the simulation. In the simulation, I added some wall art, but I don't have those yet. Still need to add lighting in the room as there are no overhead lights.

Please help me sort out what to do/ not do in this room.

I think you need to put your rug going the other way, so that the long edge of the rug is along the long edge of the longer sofa. Is there a reason the sofa is squished to one side? Can it be centered on the wall? Art, window treatments, and lamps will go a long way toward warming up the space.

I'll try the rug the other way. I think it might spill over into the adjoining dining room, but maybe not (I'll try the virtual way first to save the work LOL). No reason it's squished to one side other than I'm clueless haha. I also was thinking I'm supposed to line up the end of that one with the beginning of the smaller one in the room, but maybe not?

I've been playing with the SW color visualizer tool and came up with a ton of different schemes, but this one is pointing me toward an overall house palette that I really like. It's very "beigey", it isn't at all trendy, but it's very warm, looks a lot like the clothes in my closet - jeans and earthy tops :) - and just might work. If I want to spice it up, I think I can add or swap a gray such as amazing gray or intellectual gray into the mix to bring it into the 21st century. (There's a good amount of gray in the fabric already.) I know that the colors that the app generates aren't exact, but it's a good road map. Waddyathink? :)

theres 2 living rooms but they’re fully open, main entrance is right in the middle. One side we’re using as a TV room and thats where kids hang out too. We’re removing the dark sofa in the tv room and moving the light color sofa in the other side to the tv room. Other side is is going to be the official living room and we want to buy new sofa set there. I’ve attached an image of the sofa we picked out. I’m thinking the new sectional will go along the long wall in the living room. Behind the sectional I would like to have a picture collage of my 2 kids like the picture I’ve attached but 2 rows of pics, not 3. And the wall hanging I’ve attached was a gift and I think it would look nice on the wall with the window. We would need a rug, lamps and side tables too. I would like to get 2 individual seats in front of the sectional. Please share your thoughts whether I’m on the right path. We want a contemporary look but cozy too. please share any ides you might have to make this place warm. Thank you

The rug is the wrong orientation in relation to sectional. Rotate the sectional so the chaise is on the fireplace wall. Or pull the sectional back, center it on the fireplace, and rotate the rug to center on the fireplace. And remove the pieces from in front of the fireplace so the rug can be closer to it. Can you separate the sectional into two pieces facing each other, one under the window and one on the wall -- and rotate the rug down the middle between them. That woud be ideal...you could see more of the rug. And get bold artwork for the long wall that will compliment the bold rug. Oh, it's also squished because there's an end table on that side (hard to see in the photo). Should I move that over to the other side (or get rid of altogether)?

This set came with an ottoman chair - I can always swap that out of the loveseat? Dunno.

I would try the reverse with the sofa on the window wall and the chair on the shorter wall, I think they should both be centered on their respective walls but with the present layout the sofa would be blocked by the chair on one end.

You may want a smaller end table, since the room is small.

What tinan said. Center the sofa between the windows. Keep the rug the direction it is, but move it over a bit so that the front legs of both the sofa and the loveseat are on the rug.

Thank you. I'll give those suggestions a try in the morning and take more photos to see if I've improved. Does the artwork in the virtual drawings look good? I'm planning on having prints made with one large print and a few smaller ones next to it. I want it to be visually well-balanced, but not perfectly symmetrical, so I was playing around to see what would look good. Would love some opinions on that!

LOL Cindy - he's a cutie, isn't he? It wouldn't be hard to get him to you ... I'm in Maryland also! Just moved here a week ago. But I think we'll keep him haha.
