Please help me with the living room decor: curtains and wall decor

I need major help with my living room. We just began the redecorating of it and the rug came in in a different color than I had wanted, but it was handmade and hand dyed and came from morroco, so I have to make it work. I need help with what to do for the huge blank wall and what to do for curtains and maybe even throw pillows.

The couch is Gray from pottery barn (not sure why it looks brownish in the pictures). The only things that have to stay in the room are the built ins, the couch and the rug. I'm attaching pictures of the coffee table that is coming, but it is gray and not turquoise as in the picture.

I also really like the throw blanket I have, which i'm attaching a picture of as well.

If this rug just doesn't work, I could start over but really don't want to.

What is the application that is on the brown wall? It appears to have a different pattern under the windows.

the first thing I would do is spin the sectional. it won't block anything.

you have a sectional, apparently you want to create a cozy seating area around the fireplace and TV.

Now that is a dramatic area rug! let the sunlight show it off.

I like to expose the windows as much as possible. your drapery is fine... keep it neutral.

I'd add inset bamboo blinds Blinds.com my go to is top down/bottom up for light control when needed. ... put the cat tree by the window. your existing art behind/above the sofa

keep the mantle clutter free... the tv doesn't need any competition.

You have pretty things to work with, Love. If you find a seagrass or neutral type rug, a pretty patterned chair would look so charming! You can accent with patterned throw pillows as well. Do you have something that could be used for a focal point? Maybe your piano?? As "Bannie" mentioned, I have a similar room and used a faux FP as the focal point. Then I added a round mirror and small sconces. Excuse my old pix, but hopefully they will help you. This will be such a fun project for you!!

Can you post a sketch of the floor plan with dimensions? That would be helpful. What is the opening over the sofa? Is that to the kitchen? Am I to understand correctly that you want a dining space as well as living space in this room? I think it's a grand space and can yield a fabulous room. I think those sofa's can stay and I love the rug.

When it comes to hanging art, keep in mind those Velcro Command Strips. I use them to hang almost everything and they don't damage the walls. They hold a surprising amount of weight. That metal scrollwork would probably take one nail, but most artwork, unless the frames are really heavy, can be hung with the command strips. I'm not so sure the metal piece is "farmhouse." Rustic, probably. When I think farmhouse, though, I don't think of that type of piece. I think you can do better, but if you really LOVE it, then go for it! I do like the upholstered ottoman but I like yayagal's coffee table suggestion even better! It will definitely help set the farmhouse tone you want.

Hello italmover, I knew those pics would put everything in perspective! I stood on my kitchen bar to take them...yikes! I agree what you said about the two different chairs..it will looks more interesting. And that rug is great! That’s exactly what I was considering....maybe abit more navy blue? My dh says no to keeping the brown ottoman, but we shall see...methinks he is tired of brown...lol. I can see how it may tie in very nicely. The cabinetry will stay as it is built ins with the fireplace. I believe some side tables will put everything together nicely. Thank you so much for your input....you have no idea how much this is appreciated. I appreciate each and every idea...it helps me to look at my space through different eyes. 🤓

Lyn, spin the sectional in which direction? It's an L shape with a chaise as well. Right now, we have one of those facing the TV.

The mantle will be emptied and the furniture currently in front of the fireplace will be removed.

@ilikefriday There are 2 wood patterns happening there. Herringbone under the windows and horizontal wood from window up.

Beautiful colors! I agree with Lyn Nielson to leave the window wall open if possible. Here’s a few pillow suggestions.

The rug is the wrong orientation in relation to sectional.

Rotate the sectional so the chaise is on the fireplace wall.

Or pull the sectional back, center it on the fireplace, and rotate the rug to center on the fireplace. And remove the pieces from in front of the fireplace so the rug can be closer to it.

Can you separate the sectional into two pieces facing each other, one under the window and one on the wall -- and rotate the rug down the middle between them. That woud be ideal...you could see more of the rug.

And get bold artwork for the long wall that will compliment the bold rug. Go to greatbigcanvas.com ,for a large canvas print..a fun site and reasonable. 60x40 or 48x32. I searched for peach and teal under Abstract and found these:
