What colors are the rugs, furniture and what tones of color do you and your husband love?

Okay, here are a few suggestions. I'd do the dining room either BM stonehouse or BM Interlude and do the other room in Jonesboro cream by BM. You can't go wrong with these. Look them up with google.

What fabrics do you have in the room - seat cushions, drapes? I would want to factor those into the decision. What fabrics are in adjoining rooms, such as sofa fabric?

Something in the green family perhaps?

Blank slate as of right now. There is nothing in this room or the living room that is on the other side of the entry. No window treatment in either room either. The kitchen cabinets match our dining room furniture. I love earth tones. browns, tans, etc. Here is a picture of the seat cushions on the dining room chairs.

Thank you so much for your responses so far. yayagal I will definitely check our those colors you suggested. I never thought of green, I may need to pull the green strips out as well. We do a lot of the work ourselves and when my husband says 'go' I have to strike while the iron is hot or it might be a couple more months before he has time to work on the house. We have made rash decisions before that haven't turned out well. I wish he could give me more notice but I got to work with what I can :)

If you love earth tones, I'd pull that pretty cocoa brown out of the flooring (it looks like it might be similar to the dot in the chair covers)....and it has just a hint of a pink undertone like the furniture

I am terrible with color but wanted to say you have great bones. Your floor and wainscoting are lovely.

A midtone red-orange like Iced Tea from Behr or Hitching Post from Porter/Pittsburgh paints, will tie the walls to the floor. Make the furniture appear less pink and more golden blonde. It will also create a consistent, related shell floor-to-walls so you can easily round out the scheme with other colors at a later date.

If the primer has been up for an extend period of time, you should check with the resource from where you purchased. Because primer breaks down and loses its efficacy which could cause adhesion problems with your new, topcoats. If what you're referring to is actually 'builder's white', you might want to "dust" the walls down with a damp cloth.

I like the bm cappucino, is there something close to it at sherwin williams? My husband knows the one guy at our local store so we've been pretty faithful to their product.

Funcolors, thank you for the insight on the primer. It's definitely not builder's white. We primed in preparation for paint but then life happened and we never got around to it. I'll need to check with our painter and SW and figure out if we need to re-prime. I appreciate the color suggestion. I would like to keep away from the orange tones. I know it goes well with the floor, we painted our family room tatami tan and it goes sooo orange in the daylight, it just doesn't work for me.

My friend came over who is really good with paint colors. She mentioned since the top of our table and the front of the hutch and buffet has gray trim, we should go potentially go that route. I've never considered gray, what do you think? I've taken an additional photo to show the trim line.

I kind of like SW sandy ridge. Or am I seriously color blind? I feel like I could tie the gray in with the rug/window treatments but I need another accent color in here as well. I am so lost. thank you all for taking the time. You are too kind.

I'd go the other way...you have all that nice brown already, and if you choose another brown for the walls, I fear the room will be drab.

I'd choose a rich warm gray for your dining room, which would make the furniture and floors look rich and warm.

Look at B. Moore's Ashford Greige, Rockport Gray, or Silver Fox.

Restoration Hardware's Graphite is a lovely deep neutral gray.

Sandy Ridge could work - no, not crazy at all. Pretty color.

If you want something lighter and definitely more toned, more gray. . . don't know if your SW has a Dunn Edward's or California Paints fandeck but I just painted a sample of Heirloom Shade DEW395. There isn't a comparable SW color but w/without fandeck SW could match it to mix a Color To Go jug sample.

It's going in a bedroom with Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors. Floors have many shades of orange but they, like you, didn't want to emphasize orange. Heirloom Shade is wonderful, warm, complex. Complex is important with gray because it makes the color flexible in terms of working in many different qualities of light.

Thanks bronwynsmom and funcolors, I am leaning more and more towards a gray. I will stop by tomorrow and get a sample of the heirloom shade. It looks really pretty on my monitor. For the grays from bm, my husband will want to get the paint from sherwin williams. should i get the sample card from bm and have the color match or are there comparable colors in sherwin williams deck? I also saw the edgecomb gray in bm was really pretty as well. thank you, thank you! Once I decide on this color, I'll move on to the hallway/foyer and opposing living room. You guys are the best!

Our floors are close to the same color and we used SW Khaki Shade. It is a nice neutral that works in all the rooms.
