Where I've used clip rings, the curtains don't really move, so I'm not sure how they would perform where they move on a regular basis. It would also matter how heavy the fabric is. To be on the safe side, I would get the rod that uses the more solid hole for a regular curtain hook to go through. Those are available as well. See for example Lowes or JC Penney.

For Pinch pleat draperies, especially heavier panels that are lined and interlined, you want pins and rings with the hole. The clips are designed for flat panels. You're probably seeing more of them at places like BB&B because they're not noted for pinch pleated draperies, but have more inventory in flat panels.
And it's a price point issue.
Overstock has traverse rods meant for pinch pleated panels in probably the best price I've seen. Decorative rods that are functioning traverse rods and are sturdy enough for heavy draperies and everyday use are pricey.

Get decent rods! We went for less expensive traverse rods from Home Depot, 6 years ago, hung pinch pleat draperies on them with pins, and have been VERY unhappy with them. We will be replacing them with traverse rods and the ring clips, like those from Overstock suggested above. They seem to be much sturdier!

Be aware that the rod you have chosen is not very attractive to look at when the drapes are open. They cost more, but I would get a decorative traverse rod.

sreedesq, you can use the Kirsch rods you've indicated, and put them behind a cornice board or a valance, OR you can choose a decorative traverse rod
Decorative rods are significantly more expensive than standard traverse rods, and they vary in price by quality and where you buy them from. You can save some $ by buying from overstock or the big box stores. You can spend more and get some really distinctive rods from your local design source/ custom drapery workroom.
The Kirsch are a good quality, but what you've specified is meant to be hidden by a valance or cornice.
