Drapery hanging question - pinch pleats on rings
Comments (20)I ended up posting my compeleted drapes in a separate thread which I will link below and may answer some of the recent questions above. brutuses: annz is correct. I bought mine at Calico Corners for $7 ea. Just simple white ones that I clipped into the last ring along with the end hook. princesssusan: I am no expert, but can just tell you what I ended up doing and observed by looking at other similar treatments at Calico Corners where I bought my custom ones for my LR/DR. I put a ring in each pleat plus one at either end. budge1: My drapes are from JCP, Supreme, pinch pleated drapes in Silver Sage. I just checked the website and I don't find the colors to be very accurate so if you have a Penneys nearby, I'd check there for the color. I picked them out in the store, but it was a catalog order. See: http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25437&CatID=28503&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=130d3d2&ProdSeq=1&Cat=pinch+pleat&Dep=Window&PCat=Drapes&PCatID=28498&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=17&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0amp;RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefCatID=28498&RefDeptID=25437&Page=1&CmCatId=25437:28498:28503 As for the sheers, they are called: Lisette Pinch-pleated sheers in soft gold. I think they may be discontinued now as I didn't see them when I checked the website, though saw this: http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?ItemID=13aea97&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0amp;SearchString=Lisette&RefPage=SearchDepartment.aspx&CmCatId=SearchResults&Search1Prod=True Again, I'd check with your local Penneys. Comments (4)Rule if thumb is twice the yardage as window width...if it comes out a few inches short or a few long....not to worry, it'll all even out in the pleats. Top with a 4 inch piece of stiffener...sew to the top of the fabric, sew side hems, and turn the stiffener over and make a line of stitching 1/8 inch from the top and another same distance from the bottom. Now measure and figure out how much width you need....for the return and for an over lap. All extra fabric will be fullness inside of the pleats. Now decide how many pleats you want.....shouldn't have more than 6 inches fullness in each pleat....5 inches is better. divide the number of pleat into the area you have to fit the pleats into.... Now measure from the return and make a pleat and pin it well, measure to the next pleat, pin the pleat etc. Before you sew, hold up to the window to be sure that when closed the fabric is taut with no sags and that it will cover the window with return and overlap. Adjust pleats if needed and stitch down the pleats. Good luck...before you start look at someone's pleated draperies to see how they are made. Comments (14)Mamorella -- I love the fact that you drew your inspiration from the vibe of the Beverly Hills Hotel. You've created a fun and glamorous destination for partying in your own home for sure. kswl -- very interesting point about showing (or not showing) the curtain rod. I hadn't even thought about that. Now I will! I've just flipped through a small stack of House Beautiful and Elle Decor from the last year and see that curtain rods are almost always showing. So I guess that showcasing the rod is the current "look" and perhaps is part of the current appeal of the euro/tailored/parisian pleat. Thanks! Now I'll need to consider whether the exposed rod is the right look or not for what I'm trying to achieve in my dining room. If I decide to cover the rod I assume that I'll need my drapes to be at least three or four inches longer -- so I need to decide before I order the drapes....See MorePinch pleat curtains
Comments (3)Agree with sewing them together and purchasing extra fabric if there is a pattern that needs to be matched. Having enough open flat space for laying out the fabric is the challenge for me. I need to remove (or push aside) the furniture in my living room and use the floor. Post your experience (with photos) on this forum and the sewing forum, as well. Lots of people would love to see and be inspired!...See Morecharley526
