How to hang velvet drapes without pinch pleats?
Comments (10)Yes, double rings will create the correct orientation for your curtains to hang properly. You can slide the curtains over the expansion joint; get wands to close them. These are small rods with a ring on the end that is typically either sewn to the edge of the curtain or clipped to a pin in a pleat. They can be bought at a variety of sites online; Rue de France used to sell beautifully made brass wands but they have gone out of business. You have undoubtedly used these in a hotel when closing curtains---- they keep hands off the curtains, preserving the material, and when you use them you can lift slightly and that will take the rings over the expansion joint. The wands featured at the site below are a bit industrial/hotel-y to me, but they should give you the idea. Comments (20)I ended up posting my compeleted drapes in a separate thread which I will link below and may answer some of the recent questions above. brutuses: annz is correct. I bought mine at Calico Corners for $7 ea. Just simple white ones that I clipped into the last ring along with the end hook. princesssusan: I am no expert, but can just tell you what I ended up doing and observed by looking at other similar treatments at Calico Corners where I bought my custom ones for my LR/DR. I put a ring in each pleat plus one at either end. budge1: My drapes are from JCP, Supreme, pinch pleated drapes in Silver Sage. I just checked the website and I don't find the colors to be very accurate so if you have a Penneys nearby, I'd check there for the color. I picked them out in the store, but it was a catalog order. See: http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25437&CatID=28503&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=130d3d2&ProdSeq=1&Cat=pinch+pleat&Dep=Window&PCat=Drapes&PCatID=28498&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=17&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0amp;RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefCatID=28498&RefDeptID=25437&Page=1&CmCatId=25437:28498:28503 As for the sheers, they are called: Lisette Pinch-pleated sheers in soft gold. I think they may be discontinued now as I didn't see them when I checked the website, though saw this: http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?ItemID=13aea97&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0amp;SearchString=Lisette&RefPage=SearchDepartment.aspx&CmCatId=SearchResults&Search1Prod=True Again, I'd check with your local Penneys. Comments (5)It looks to me that the picture you posted has been finger arranged just the way the owner wants them and probably doesn't open or close them ever! I would think the traverse rod would make your flat panels look the most uniform because the controlled spacing of the traverse rod will keep the "pleats" evenly spaced. I have a non traverse rod and rings on flat panel drapes in my LR. In this photo you can see the flat panel and how the rings are not uniformly spaced out. I took this picture for a different reason, but IRL, I do have them fairly evenly spaced to try and get the pleats to be even. I do have a traverse rod in my FR and while I don't ever close my drapes, I do like the way the traverse rod manages the rings in a nice even way. I think the hardest part of using a traverse rod with a flat panel is getting the hooks evenly inserted across the panel so the pleats fall evenly....See MorePinch Pleated Draperies
Comments (9)I realize JCP has always been the go to place for drapes, but they are cheap for a reason. I bought their Royal Velvet pinch pleat drapes for our master bedroom a few years back and not only was the purchase a miserable experience, but I've really not been happy with them. First you will be lucky to find two panels at the same store that are the same length. It may say 63" on the package but you won't find that to be the case. I needed six panels total and had to go to several different stores involving several trips and returns to find lengths that were even remotely close to each other. Some panels were literally 4-5 inches off and they deemed that acceptable (I am not kidding, this was told to me by 2 different managers). And maybe it's just the fabric they used but these things hold tons of static and the lining is always separating from them; as a result, I've never been able to get them to hang quite right and they are stationery, I never even move them. I think the ones I got were the Royal Velvet, I know they rate highly in the reviews but if I could switch them for something different tomorrow, I would. We just have other priorities right now. I got some grommet drapes from there for our living room and they are great, but again, the lengths were all off by 1-5 inches however. My only save was that they only came in a length that was longer than I needed so since I had to get all the panels shortened, it didn't matter....See MoreKathleen McGuire
