Cafe Curtains and Old Age

I'd appreciate some frank opinions from you all...don't try to spare my feelings. Here goes: I just finished a bathroom redo, and the time has come for window treatments. The bathroom style is my old favorite, British Colonial.

The plan is to put shutters on the bottom half of each of two windows in the bathroom so we'll have privacy and breezes. (We'll get cheap shutters and not plantations until the bank account recovers a bit from the cost of the redo.) On the top half of each window, I have tropical botanical fabric to make cafe curtains. We need to block the sun late in the day, otherwise I'd just leave the tops uncovered.

I know cafe curtains are not in style but they are practical for this room. My real worry is that at age 62 I'm just reusing old, tired solutions and not keeping up with current design trends. What would be a modern way to dress the 2 windows in my room?

I don't know how to post a picture but will find out and put some up here. Thanks.
