Please help me pick fabric for my kitchen cafe curtains.

Okay, I had originally planned on having cafe curtains on the kitchen windows, then I decided I liked them with no window treatment. It wasn't a big deal at the time as far as privacy, we had a younger couple that lived on that side and they always kept their blinds on that side of the house closed. They have recently moved and they're renting the house to his brother, who again recently 'shared' with my DH that he watches me in the kitchen a lot. My DH is gone during most weeks .. anyhooooo .. yeah, it's time for curtains. Right now I have a few pieces of art sitting in the windows so you can't see in. *LOL*

So, I need to come up with something that fit in with the vintage feel of the kitchen and the cottage/happy feel of the house. I don't want a valance, just curtains that will cover the bottom half of the windows and provide privacy when they are drawn.

I'd love any thoughts or suggestions on fabrics to use. I think if I keep the curtains simple, I can make them myself.

Here's the windows I need to cover again :
