Photoshop Elements help, please?

I am new to PE. I'm trying to figure out how to resize a photo I took so it's not so huge, so I can post it here. I bought a book to help me, but it's not helping on this. This was so easy on Jasc Paintshop Pro 9! But after experimenting I can't seem to figure it out on this s/w. I will half the numbers I can access on "Image Resize" and it still is the same too big size. Help!

My version of PE is 2.0, an older version so it may have changed. But this is what I do.

1 open picture in PE (look at the title bar of the picture and it will tell you what % of full size image is currently displayed)
2 click on "image" on the menu
3 click on "resize" on the submenu that opens
4 click on "image size"

in the dialog box that opens, click into where it says pixels and change it to percent, then click into the box to the left of percent and change - I ususally use 15-17 percent. Then click "OK"

The image then becomes quite small on your screen. Go to "View" on the menu and click on "View Actual Pixels". This will show you the picture in its actual size.

Also when saving your file, be sure to do a "Save As" and change the name of the file so that you do not write over the original high quality picture. (I usually just add the word SMALL to the file name) After changing the name of the file and clicking OK, another dialog box will appear. I usually change to a quality to 4 in this dialog box, this will keep the physical size of the file quite small for posting.

Thank you so much! That was *excellent* help. Your posting the view of the menus showed me that my problem was I needed to check the "Resample Image" box and THAT was why the upper data was not "live" as it was in the instruction book that failed to mention that little important point.

Anyhoo, I have now successfully shrunk a photo, so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Well once again I have gotten a solution for a problem by posting on the computer forum. First, thanks Owbist, what you said is so true. I can attest to your comments about lurkers learning a lot just from reading the postings here and understanding more about their own computers. I have been one of those lurkers for several years now. I have learned an incredible amount about my computer but probably just as important I have gained confidence in tackling problems. So thanks to all who participate here. Jean....you led me to a the spot where I found the solution to my problem. While your "view/toolbars/tools" didn't work for me, I kept looking and when I looked again in "window" there was a line that said "reset palette location". I clicked on that and like magic the toolbar reappeared and once again all is right in my little computer corner. So thanks for getting me in the right area.

1. make banner, add text, etc. 2. Layer >> new layer 3. open .gif or .jpg you want to add 4. resize .gif/.jpg if it is too big 5. with .gif/.jpg image active, select all and copy 6. paste onto banner, use the mover tool to place .gif/.jpg where you want it 7. merge all layers

I find Adobe products in general are very difficult to use...not intuitive at all. I'm a nurse...16 years in ICU using all sorts of monitors and equipment, so I don't consider myself a total dummy. I have been involved in Telephone Nursing for the past 16 years and have learned many programs to manage patient care and also to manage employees and projects. Everything I have learned has been in the office setting by osmosis or taught myself. I'm not an expert by any means, but I can catch on to programs and even write technical curriculum as needed...but Adobe...YIKES...it makes me crazy. I just had to learn a new program out of the Adobe Premier Pro CS3 over the last 2 days within a couple of hours. I built myself a guide with screenshots, but need to practice some more. Maybe after I get better with this video adaption program I will be able to use more elements in Photoshop...but I am a total hack in that program. I wish I had someone at home to show me how to use all these programs...I would be sooooo happy. But I can CROP damitall!!! LOL

Thanks Casey. I will go and look. I also have PictureIt too Maryanne. (How are you feeling?) I used it years ago with my first scanner and I loved it. I bought the latest version just last month and I'd forgotten all about it. Thanks you too. I will post the end result when I'm through with it...IF I figure it out.
