Have you considered hanging the towel racks on the door? Then you could mount just one hook outside the shower for easy access to a towel when you take your shower.

It also looks like you have enough room to mount a glass shelf between the bottom of the medicine cabinet and the top of the sink so that you have a place for the toothpaste and a liquid soap dispenser.

You could add a towel ring to the small wall to the right of the sink for a hand towel.

I was also going to suggest putting hooks at the back of the door. That's what we did. I used the 3M hooks that can be easily removed.

I'd be tempted to paint that wood square door (is that a chute?) above the toilet white as well.

Hand towel ring - on the wall next to the cabinet, or on the cabinet itself on the side, between the cabinet and the heater? Can use a towel bar there instead of ring too.

I would paint the door over your stool green like the walls...it will fade away. Find an piece of art, such as a picture, wrought iron square, etc. to nail on the door after it is painted. I would get a crome trash can or better yet, put it under the sink cabinet if you have room. I would put a double shelf, painted white over your radiator. Top shelf even with the toilet tissue holder and the other one a couple of inches above the radiator. The top would be a place to put a pretty plant and a small covered basket for small things and the bottom shelf could be used for pretty folded colorful towels or more baskets (all baskets white, if possible). I would put your toothbrush holder in the cabinet above the sink...not out in the open. Personally I would put a plain white shower curtain....get a green rug for in front of the stool and a matching one for in front of the shower and sink. Let your room be the soft green and white....so calming, easy to keep clean and etc.

I see nothing boring about your bathroom. It is calm and serene.

I do agree with forhgtv suggestions, as well as grandmaof3's suggestion to paint the item above the toilet the same color as the walls. If you cannot do a radiator cover, you might think of getting a piece of remnant granite or marble very cheaply cut to fit on top of the radiator. Then put towels on top of it - in the winter they will be nice and warm.

P.S. I don't know that I would put knobs on the cabinet in this small bathroom. They might be too distracting from the streamlined feeling in the room.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided against towel bars on the door as it is already a tight squeeze on the hall landing outside and putting stuff on the door will just make it worse. Door doesn't open more than 90 degrees as there is a linen closet outside.

Everything has been mostly done (painting, etc,) so I am really just trying to finish this up. The door over the toilet is actually a rather deep cabinet that is pretty useful. I thought about raising it but it is so securely fastened I am afraid of too much plaster damage and I don't want to deal with that right now. I think it is pretty old - some sort of salvaged item the POs installed.

The old oak cabinet did not photograph well although I had just waxed it and it really glows. The door is mahogany, so doesn't match either cabinet, it just seems a shame to paint good wood. and they always look clean, at least.

I think the little door has character, and the other bits of wood. It's an old house that evolved, and it should reflect that, imo.

You could get a piece of marble for the top of the radiator as a shelf. Maybe even a stock piece of threshold from Home Depot or Lowes. If they don't sell them there you can get one when you visit your sister.

What about toothbrush holder or hand towel holder down on the side of the cabinet. Low, but out of the way.

The problem with the cabinet over the toilet is that it is off-centered. You can disguise that by installing a towel bar just wide enough for one towel on the larger side.

It wasn't that I didn't like your toothbrush holder. It just seems crowded on your sink surround and difficult to open and close the hot water tap. That's why I suggested adding a glass shelf. The ones for bathrooms are very narrow, so they are perfect for the items you want handy and help to keep the sink surround clear. You should be able to fit your holder on the shelf.

Put the toothbrush holder in the cabinet above the sink. The top of the vanity has limited space, so I wouldn't put anything but a small decorative container containing a handsoap to wash your hands after using the bathroom.

I like the little door above the toilet. What about a shelf similar to the wood in the little door along the bottom (or the top - or even side) of the mini-door? Add a tropical plant to the left of the mini door, let it trail along the shelf. I'm seeing golden pothos, very easy plant to care for. Your window is reasonably close, so good indirect light, plus lots of humidity, tropical plants would love it. Living art I guess.

I love that green and white together and I think the room looks great. I wouldn't touch that cabinet, now that you have explained the its history.

But the cabinet is a little short for the space, so if you could raise the height a bit by placing something tall on it or by installing a shelf above it, I think it would be a better fit. It doesn't bother me at all that it's off center...it's centered over the toilet.

Since you asked, no, I don't like the toothbrush holder, but that's just a difference in personal taste. I like "pretty" things, and the stand reminds me of a screwdriver organizer. But all that matters is whether you like it!

As someone who lives in an older home with small bathrooms, I think you have not maximizes your storage as well as you could.

I agree with everyone about painting the cabinet door over the toilet to match the wall.

I think where you have the trash can is where I would leave it. (sorry guys, but us ladies need the trash can by the toilet sometimes.)

I think that I would have a cover made for the radiator that was a open rectangle. Start at the top of the headboard. Then a open space below that that would be probably just tall enough to hold some short baskets or two-three folded towels. Finish with small moulding and paint.

I am someone who has to have some art to stare at while I brush my teeth. I would need something Small vacation photo in a frame on top of the new shelf under the window would work as a start.

I agree about hand towel ring by the door. I would also add a wall hunf toothbrush holder to the left of the med cabinet.

I would do a 2 long towel bars on the bottom edge of the radiator shelf to hang up towels

I appreciate all the ideas. I really feel done with this room though! I was trying to hang these few items and felt stuck. When I ordered the wall-mounted toothbrush holder and towel bar I thought there was plenty of room - I am trying to find the least-odd space to put them if you know what I mean. Having some opinions has been really helpful.

There's a linen closet just outside the bathroom, and the 2 cabinets inside the room are only half full, so I really don't need any more storage. I try not to buy too much stuff anyway.

I don't like things sitting out in baths and kitchens - I like everything behind closed doors. When I renovated my kitchen I eliminated all open shelving.

I like the door painted white � it makes the natural wood cabinet over the toilet more like artwork. A wide, wall-to-wall shelf above that cabinet could hold neatly folded towels, but that doesn�t sound needed.

I have the same toothbrush holder, so I must like it. I�d place it on a glass shelf mounted to the wall on right of medicine cabinet, and hang the hand towel bar on the left side of vanity.

Because the toilet is off-center, I�d hang towel bars only on the left side wall. I think that would probably look neater as well. Or you could hang a swivel style towel rack that might accommodate more towels.

Do the four of you include younger kids? Since they probably could not reach the high towel bars, a floor towel bar like this, placed at vanity corner, could be useful.

I love radiators � especially for drying towels. A variation would be to install a towel bar that curves over the radiator, so towels can be stored there neatly. You would need a towel bar that projects the depth of the radiator, or a custom install. This is not deep, but I like the concept.

There are dual-rod shower curtain rods(both straight and curved) that allow you to hang towels on the outside of the shower.

I've never seen dual-rod shower curtains before - a very good idea. Thanks for sharing.

I am done with this boring bathroom for now. I hope to gut and rebuild my downstairs bath this Fall. That bathroom REALLY has problems.

Same advice as some others--- paint the cabinet door above the toilet. It looks like a door in a doctor's office bathroom where you would put your urine sample. The beautiful green paint will de-emphasize it.

Ring for hand towel, some kind of towel rack somewhere. One on the back of the door, if mounted high enough, is not going to interfere with your door. (Most don't open wider than 90 degrees, btw.)

Finishing this room is very simple. I'm gonna add my 2 cents before you give up on this thread!!! :-)

1. The hand towel bar goes on the wall to the right of the vanity. Check.

2. The toothbrush holder goes to the left of the vanity. Check.

3. A small glass shelf under the mirror cabinet. Check.

4. The wood cabinet over the toilet dilemma - keep it as is. It's charming. Now...since the toilet & wood cabinet are off-center, so you need something that accents that. I would get something with some dimension - an arched twig "wreath" that you will put on the wall that will look like a tilted "C". It will arch around the left side & over the wood cabinet. This will give dimension to the area & highlight that awesome vintage cabinet!!!
