Please help....Stained front door interior and painted trim?

Question, please...

For those of you who have stained front doors on the inside and possibly stained sidelights, but with painted trim in your house... Did you paint the trim around the door or not?

I have a window right next to my front door, but it isn't quite a sidelight as there is about 3" of wall in between and the window doesn't quite reach the base moulding. I do not plan to paint any part of the window, but will be painting the base moulding (which will run under the window and right up to the door). I am painting the trim around all interior doors, but the doors will remain stained. Should I paint around my entry door too?

Confused... Thanks for your help...

I live in a 70+ year old Cape. This door had always been painted to match the trim. This year, I decided to strip it and stain it. Here are the results. Since all the trim in my house is painted an 'almost white', I wouldn't consider stripping the surrounding trim.

Like My3dogs, I live in an older house and recently redid our front door. The trim is painted white, the door is stained. A shot from the outside, but the trim on the inside looks exactly the same.

Nice home. You really have a lot if options based on the colors in your bricks. What colors do you like? Which don't you like? Since the shutters arent changing & appear to be close to BM Salamander, what about BM Winter Lake or Squirrel Tale? Try finding a color in their online gallery close to the shutters & check the suggested coordinated colors. Best of luck.

We recently painted our front door with sidelights and know what you're going through. What we did before painting was drive thru neighborhoods to see what others had done and that helped us decide what to do with ours. We noticed that some painted them all the same color but others painted them contrasting colors or matched the sidelights with the windows and painted the door a separate color to make it stand out. Hope that helps!

IMO the side lights and the door were installed as a unit and should be treated as a unit and before painting get a nice piece of art above the console and use a color from it for the door instaed of matching the exterior color.

Patricia, we have no storage for coats or boots except for a small closet behind where I took the long view photo and the kids wouldn't be able to reach the hangers. We might look into cutting into the living room (if it's not a supporting wall) to create a built-in, long term. I think i'll do the door in the trim colour. Thanks for your comment 🙂

This is when we were still under construction, but our front door is stained, and our trim in "linen" (white).
