Front Entry Door and Interior Door and Side Lites Color?

We are in the process of building a house and the house is about 2 hours away. This isn't the best picture but this is a decision we need to make relatively quickly so thought I would start with this picture and take another when we go back to river. It does not include the black metal railing that we have across the front and down steps. The shutters are the dark green that looks black. It is also hard to see what color the siding but it is Hardie plank Khaki Brown and Chesapeake Pearl brick. Could anyone please tell us what color they would paint or stain this front door? The metal inside the door and side lites are black.

Also, unfortunately, the interior side lites were primed with white paint so we are figuring that we have to now paint the interior part of the door and side lites to match the interior trim (mascarpone) rather than staining. Could we paint the side lites with the interior trim color and then stain or paint the door another color or do we need to paint the door the same color?

Really appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks so much.

We recently painted our front door with sidelights and know what you're going through. What we did before painting was drive thru neighborhoods to see what others had done and that helped us decide what to do with ours. We noticed that some painted them all the same color but others painted them contrasting colors or matched the sidelights with the windows and painted the door a separate color to make it stand out. Hope that helps!

So it's wood? I would stain it.

If I had to have a knocker with this sort of door, I'd mount it on a post adjacent to the door. If it were my door I'd forget the knocker or change the door. Good luck on your project!

Blueberry blue or a dark red would be my picks for the outside, although a spinach green or dusky purple would look good too -- your brick is a good shade that will go with lots. Indoors I think all white w/ white trim (a white that matches your cabinets) would be fine, especially since your trim and stair are white also; but I think that I would rather try to match the wall. Using an enamel (gloss or semi-gloss) will change it enough from the wall to give it interest without being obviously different. If I didn't like it after a few months, I would repaint. It only takes an hour to paint a door.

I am doing the same as DLM. Mahogany door stained on outside and inside. My interior will have white trim. Wood floors and some stained wood stair parts, and other wood accents to pull it together. Or you can paint your interior door.

Can you draw a sketch of the layout? I'm not sure I understand when you say you want to move the front door to the front so you enter into the sunroom, but can't because the sunroom opens to another room. Or, are you thinking that you want to enclose the front door stoop, and move the front door out into that enclosure to face front instead of driveway? Your issue there would be zoning, if that kind of enclosed space is too close to the property line.

Paint the whole door and sidelights in bright fresh white -- add a large black cast-iron door knocker and door handle - for a more traditional look.

OR -- for a more modern look -- look for a pewter or brushed silver door knocker and handle ....
