Backsplash on countertop and outlets overlap
Comments (1)Hello Tami, Actually, this IS one of the General Contractor's subs. If the GC was informed about the taller base cabinet then it's ALL on him for not communicating with his electrician about the change in elevation. In either event, it's a simple repair that your electrician can perform by raising the outlet or just turning it horizontal, which ever works best for you. If you did not inform the GC that the cabinets would be taller, then he's got a point for his argument but he should still be willing to accommodate the change, for a nominal back-charge fee. Either way, it's not a disaster and the solution is with moving the fixture and not the cabinet or finished surface. Best of luck, Shaughnn...See More12 inches of counter = electrical outlet
Comments (43)Do the right thing. For functionality's sake AND for safety, an outlet is needed there. Kitchens aren't just for "pretty pretty". They're work rooms and the most dangerous work rooms in the home. More accidents occur in the kitchen than all of the other rooms in the home combined. That's why it's the most tightly regulated and code controlled room in the house. It's not just to piss off people about their "pretty pretty" being secondary to safety, it's to potentially save a life! Just because YOU would "never" use an electrical outlet there doesn't mean that some other future home owner wouldn't. Instead, they'll have to drape a cord over a potentially live stove to be able to plug in their spice grinder or hand blender or crock pot. There is NO WAY in hell that I'd pass that if I were a code inspector. You're fighting tooth and nail over an issue that is based in aesthetics to you and safety to everyone else. Safety SHOULD always win. Do the right thing and add the outlet and be done with it....See MoreIn counter outlet: Countertop Box Pop-Up
Comments (12)You want the cut outs in the granite made in the shop on the CNC machine or with a water jet. Jimmy and his grinder on site are going to have to make the stone significantly weaker to get a nice square. You don't want "square" square either. A bit oversized with radii in the corners is much stronger, like the bit on a CNC machine would make. I broke a backsplash while removing it because of the over-cutting that was done by hand to make the duplex receptacle hole. Fortunately this stone was quite forgiving....See MoreElectrical outlet in island countertop
Comments (25)If you want a nose tissue, you ask for Kleenex. BX may not be the official name, but any electrical supply house and electrician knows what it is. If you don’t look me the colloquialism, that doesn’t make it wrong. Let you get to be 75 and call things by the New Officially Adopted Nomenclature every single time when you are used to calling them by something else for 40 years. And junctions in boxes have to remain accessible. So all of those boxes are either in an accessible cabinet, in which case all that wire needs to be changed to armored cable, or it’s a dead, inaccessuble space, and the boxes can’t originate from there....See Morekisu
