I hope someone else here will have an answer for you. I don't know, but if you don't want to experiment, you could take it to the cleaners to see if they can press or steam it for you. If you want to try it, you could use a pressing cloth and a cool iron, and don't press on any seams or darts or the seam allowance could possibly show through the fabric then. But I think the cleaners might be a safer bet if you value the dress. Thank you all. Tammy, the rug was purchased from Room Service Home. I could not find online before ordering...was easier once I had the manufacturers name. It's by Loloi and is part of the Larson Collection. Mine is the Cinn/Beige 5'6" x 8'6". Soumak rug (they spell it "Sumac" on the ticket, but to me that is poison ivy! lol) It is a loose weave, not as tight as the more expensive soumaks in our great room and breakfast room, so I wouldn't put it in a high traffic area. Patricia, your mother sounds like an interesting woman! The card case contains a card from my paternal grandfather's sister, my paternal grandmother and myself. She had told my dad she wanted me to have it after she passed away, but it wasn't written down anywhere. Luckily, none of his brothers or sister fussed about me receiving it. I have a good friend whose husband's last name is Scottish. And he knows where in Scotland his ancestors lived and where the ancestral home is. But the family room in the house looks like a Scotsman gone mad. SO much bright tartan - upholstery, carpet. They like it and it's been that way for close to 50 years. But it would drive me mad. I like the first picture with the very neutral tartan. But reds and greens AND animal heads? Unless you live in Scotland, that wouldn't be my choice.

For some reason, tartan always reminds me of rooms that Scot Meacham Wood has done. His traditional, English country manor style is what never fails to come to my mind when I see that fabric. I don't think it's "only" for Christmas, or even winter months necessarily. Certainly it doesn't have a light, springy look, but in the right setting it can convey a sort of rustic elegance that is absolutely lovely.
