Tan wall color w/ whitewashed brick, help!

I am trying to decide on a tan wall color, for my living room. Right now, the fireplace is whitewashed, & I love it, that will remain as is. My sectional sofa is a dark chocolate brown, & I have dark hardwood floors. I know I'd like a tan wall color. I have SW Kilim beige in other rooms, and my kitchen is SW latte. I have attached a pic showing the current wall color (too dark!) and the fireplace brick color. I am strongly considering BM Lenox tan, Manchester tan, shaker beige, possibly revere pewter (I like how it appears in photos, am not familiar with it, personally) or Bennington gray, just because it also appears tan in photos. I am absolutely positive I want a tan shade, something light, to open up this room. The dark taupe (? I have no idea the exact name of current shade) is way too dark, and I love the look of dark chocolate brown, paired with tan (my kitchen cabinets are an espresso brown, with SW latte wall color, Love!) honestly, the whitewashed fireplace is throwing me a little. I welcome suggestions for any paint brand, doesn't have to be SW or BM. THank you!

i too am struggling to find a tan color for the foyer and upper hallways of a house we're moving to... i want to use SW and am leaning towards Row House Tan, but i keep thinking it isn't quite clear/sharp enough or something... i want it to be quite light, and not too yellow or green or pink or orange... thought macadamia or nomadic desert might work, but they don't look quite right either in that house... :(

@leelee, LOL, yes the red/orange color is the color I'd be covering up. :) @celerygirl, thank you for doing that! That was really helpful and took your tip and tried this on the BM site as well! I am agreeing with you all that the lighter neutral color would work best. Here are the colors I've narrowed it down to that look good with BM Gray Mirage: BM 2146-60 November Rain BM HC-80 Bleeker Beige BM HC-173 Edgecomb Gray SW 7738 Cargo Pants (will need to compare the paint chip to BM Gray Mirage to be sure but looks good from what I can tell) If you have any thoughts on these 3 colors (or any others), I would love to hear them since I am absolutely horrible at picking out colors and have made some costly and timely mistakes in the past. Hi!!!!! Question for you! We just put up faux brick on our wall. Have tested some scrap using paint/drywall Compund ...and just Compund alone...it was yellowing in between the “grout”...we cannot figure out why. It is only in the spots where we used our finger to smooth out the lines. What did u use for the “schmere”? Thank you!

What is missing from you house is foundation plantings. Get a plan together an plant in the fall after the heat wave is over. Plant far enough away from the foundation to allow the plants to mature. Paint the secondary door the same dark brown. There is so little trim showing, I would leave it brown along the roofline. I would leave the brick wall directly in front of the empty. It will give it more emphasis, But plant some low growing bushes along the walkway. Next year, in early spring add annuals for long lasting color. Can you paint the window frames and the frame around the door? If yes, the I would paint that trim a creamy off white, a really pale tan. Or if the windows are an tan color you can match that and paint the brown trim I think I see around the windows. They will show better. The two small windows could use shutters - one half the size of the window. Paint them a gray blue or black. Paint the front door the same blue.

Below is a BM color and it's a true tan. I've used it often and it goes so well with whites and creams. I love the name too, Inner Balance.

Sorry I am looking a a perfect tan for my laundry room and I'm stumped too.

Would you consider a color - SW Quitetude? I have it in a room with dark hardwoods and it's lovely. It might be a nice contrast to your floors and furniture.

I have Bennington Gray in my kitchen and family room- it's green, tan, and gray, depending on lighting and what is around it. It looks great with my dark green sofa, darker wood furniture, a chocolate brown paint (BM Barista) and even with the SW Brick Paver in the next room.

How about Sanderling SW7513. It's more "tan" than your wall color and I don't see any undertones in it. I think it would work well with your brick.

Look at BM edgecomb gray too. I think you will need to sample some of them. All great colors.
