Hi, well you sure are off to a great start, what a nice color of green that is! I found this comforter set which is cute, but a bit pricey and I'm not sure how it will work with the wall color.

You may find it to be a challenge to find bedding with animals on it that works with the walls. I might lean instead towards finding a solid/reversible comforter in two colors you like and use those colors as your compliments to the green. You mentioned giraffes, so for example get a comforter with tan on one side & yellow on the other then use the yellow or tan in the closet and niche. You can always introduce the animals theme into the room with the window treatments, accessories and art.

I know you didn't mention this and I really hope I don't offend as that's not my intent, but I would also remove the entertainment center (and tv). Replace it instead with a small work table, bookcase and storage that will be easy for him to utilize. He's at an age where it's important for him to have a spot where he can be creative, "work" on his coloring, entertain friends and do other projects. Having a bookcase and organizer bins is also a good way to encourage him to collect and care for his books, display his favorite things, learn to organize his belongings and so on.

IKEA is famous for their kids stuff, it's bright and creative, super functional and pricing is usually really reasonable too. They also have great a photo gallery for inspiration.

I love Marimekko fabrics for kids' rooms. I have linked one, but there are other fabrics with animals on them that are fun, too, if you sew. They also have a very cool cheetah pillow (greens in the background with a blue cheetah) that would look marvelous in the room and is on sale. The cheetah fabric is on sale as well.

I agree 100% with lukkiirish about the entertainment center and tv, but then, I am a teacher and hate to see kids have a tv in their own rooms, especially a wee one! Easier to remove it now than later! A small table and colorful containers would be great.

I understand completely about the entertainment center however I do not have anywhere else to put it. It was also my grandmothers before she passed away so getting rid of it is not a option. But I do love all the storage it allows.

Removing the tv however is a option.

I like both the links however both are a bit pricey. I do not want everything to be "cheap" but as a one income family I am on a budget :)

Our library recently redid their children's area in a jungle theme--I believe they painted large blades of "grass" on a green backround, and had large animal stickers peeking out of it. Maybe you could do just one wall like that or an alcove so not to get too carried away. Also, they took regular brown kraft paper that comes on a roll and twisted large pieces around to look like jungle vines-that was really cool. You could hang these from the corners & maybe attach some lighter weight stuffed animals to them.

I understand, thanks for not taking offense with the suggestion. We are all on budgets these days and there's nothing wrong with that. That bedding is cute but expensive especially for a small child. Lately, I've really been getting into consignment stores. The inventory is usually a higher end quality and I've found some really cool things for our own house in them. I know in our area there are specialty consignment stores for children's lines as well. I'm almost wondering if that wouldn't be a good route for you try. You may be able to find some really nice bedding or room decor at half the cost. Another great place to try is Home Goods.

I just came across a website called zulily.com which seems to be like a gilt.com for kids' stuff. Today zulily has little animal chairs and a zebra step stool on sale. If your little Tarzan likes to climb, be sure to anchor that entertainment unit against the wall.

How about painting the entertainment center? Are you (or anyone you know)artistic at all? You could do vines and animals on it or again just use decals. You could paint it white like those gutters (again, so cute!) and use the green at the back of the shelves as well. I think painting it would make it more like something for a child's room.

I also agree that consignment shops are great places to find good deals. Also, check Craig's List. Kids do grow up and perfectly good quilts, etc. need homes. I know, it broke my heart to finally get rid of the two car/truck quilts from my son's room that I had stored for so long-he was 28 when I finally donated them still in excellent condition! I do understand sentimental value (I still have one pillowcase from the set-ha)!

This is directed at cyn427 -Oh I understand perfectly about sentimental things. I kept some stuff but couldn't stand the thought of having it sitting in a box in the corner...so i made shadow boxes.
The first was when he was born. Complete with his name, shirt and hat, first pictures, the newspaper announcement, and hospital bracelets.

Now to just find the perfect place in the house to hang them :)

I hate to pile on, but I agree about not having a TV in a child's room - especially such a young child. You could keep the entertainment center for storage - you don't need a TV on it. (and this is from a person with 7 TVs in her house!)

I suggest you find bedding with a fern motif or other plant material. My MIL had some that would be perfect, Domestications, but that was years ago.. She had wall paper to match. A very large scale leaf of some sort. Then stock him with stuffed animals. This way the "room" is more grown up but the toys carry the theme and age of the child. A tree/clothes hooks would be cute and practical in a corner. I wonder if you could retro fit the entertainment center . Remove the tv and put in a pull out table deal? I have seen it done on home shows. It will be great fun when it is done, what ever way you go!!

Typed out a long post yesterday and then lost it! Ugh!

Anyway, to summarize:
1. Consider getting neutral bedding and adding in your jungle theme with accessories like just the pillows and removable decal. That way, if your son just LOVES something else down the road, you can easily change it with the pillows and other minor accessories.

2. Your son's bed looks a little high-- though I have short kids, so maybe not for him. There are really cute stepstools with a jungle theme-- some are mass produced (check Target and Amazon) but you can also find them on Etsy.

3. Since you are open to removing the TV, I'd say not to put art supplies in there since I find bedrooms not to be the best place for that with young kids. (Depends on your child, though.) You could have baskets of books and open-ended toys. A radio/CD player is always nice, too. Could be a fun dance space!

4. I'd either lower the white shelves if they are for your son-- they do not look to be at a child's eye level, OR keep them up high but use them for breakable items. It's a good idea to literally get down at his level and see how accessible things are, what his view is, etc. Hang things for HIM, not for adults.

I agree with the previous poster -I'd keep the duvet, curtains, etc. neutral and add the 'jungle' stuff in accessories. Based on the shadow boxes, it looks like you are pretty creative... Could you copy a simple giraffe from a coloring book picture and paintit floor to ceiling on the wall, in orange and yellow maybe? Kids rooms are so much fun to do. I've also seen cute growth charts done with jungle animals, that would be fun to add.

My own son was Thomas the Tank crazy, and then dinosaur crazy... so you can really let him change it up by keeping the big ticket items neutral.
