Comments (23)What a darling room for a little darling!! My daughter just finished her twins' rooms and I noticed the end table in your room. My husband is actually making that same table for our GD as well as another one sports themed for GS. Where did you find such a beautiful table and chair set? We will be looking for one shortly too....See MoreTeen Girls, Shared Room - need advice
Comments (4)This sounds like a lovely space for them. I think that the teen view of decor is very different than ours and what works and what does not. This could be a nice project for them to make the choices together, and will also let you off the hook if one of them does not like it. My DD is also drawn to strong colors, esp. orange, but it is quite overwhelming on the walls. Last year I bought her a bright orange bedspread and we are updating it now and her new choice is an aqua blue. So it seems she herself is now finding her room to be "hot" and wanted to bring some coolness to it. Look In your situation, I'd really encourage the girls to agree on a wall color with one accent wall. Show them some websites and catalogs from Pottery Barn Teen to give them some ideas. IKEA is another good source for ideas and accent pieces for teens. I'd let their separate personalities have free reign with their choice of bedspreads, decorative pillows, etc. Put up a large corkboard for each girl to pin up stuff that is important to them and remind both they can express their individuality by hanging up posters, etc. Perhaps DD who loves bright colors may be content with a more sedate wall color if she can put up some colorful artwork. It may look jaring to you, but what is more important is that they love it. As for sleepovers, I second Les' suggestion of aerobeds. I have a twin and it works great. If there is more than one child sleeping over my kids would go in the family room anyway and use sleeping bags....See MoreBoy and Girl shared room with only one free wall..well, barely.
Comments (46)Joanna, I'd suggest completely redoing the closet with double hanging bar and wire shelving - right now, it's not a very efficient use of the space. The systems from Rubbermaid and ClosetMaid are both good. You can draw it up and then get the shelves cut to desired length at Home Depot or Lowes. There are also kits, but those tend to not to result in as an efficient use of the space as something you design yourself, IMHO. The systems are very easy to install - basically fasten the top bar from which all the uprights hang to your studs, install the uprights and then shelf supports (which are all moveable) and the shelves. You might be able to get rid of at least one of the dressers with a better use of the closet space....See MoreWhat color to paint a shared girl toddler/boy baby room ?
Comments (16)Bright colors with lots of contrast are very good for developing eye coordination. Helping babies to focus etcetera. Primary colors are always good. Maybe paint the walls a cheerful yellow with bright red curtains and blue Linens Etc. I do know one young mother who painted her baby's room white with all black accessories. Her logic was that that was the highest contrast a person can get LOL....See MoreAnglophilia
