Help! Breakfast area too matchy matcy. Boring alert!

Hi All:

My parents bought us this really pretty set of Martha stewart furniture. It was free, so I can't complain. But... she talked me into the table and chairs. It's soo boring in there I can't stand it. It's a really dark brown color. And, I think it's too big for my nook. Oh well. I love the hutch. It's so pretty and with the beadboard inside, it's very classic I think. The insides are a grey white, not blue. We are planning on putting beadboard around the kitchen cabs. So, can someone please give me some ideas to brighten/make it pretty in there?

Some things to consider... I am currently redoing the curtains so they are a double pinch pleat (not the normal triple - linen fabric is too thick). You can see it in the pictures of the attached front room. And, I have rods to go over the small windows so they will have a corner with drapes over them (like the glass doors). So, will be L shaped on both sides.

The pictures are during the day and at night.

I would like to repaint all three areas. My couches are a greyish, bluish, green. Supposedly sage. They are grey at night and green during the day. Ideas anyone? The kitchen cabs will probably be dove white. Not opposed to any color except purple. The nook area gets a good amount of light when it's sunny (facing north though). The kitchen is a little too dark for me. And, the front room is way too dark for me.

I'm starting to replace the china in the cabinet with mostly colored glass and white china.

As a side note, we are early thirties with a two year old. I love fun and more coastal decoration. But, with that cabinet, it almost seems too formal for that. We are not formal at all! I do like graphic designs as far as fabric (paisley, black and white grid patterns, or there is this waverly coral fabric I like). But, I do like natural materials too (linens and wood).

I'm hoping some of you guys can give me some suggestions. It's too matchy and I can't stand it! Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!! Don't mind my dirty house. I'm trying to do eighty things at once. Once my drapes are done, it will be a lot better. Probably not though!
