My vote is to stay with the Pewter. I like the detail of the pewter kitchen hardware and lighting. When I looked at the pictures, the pewter just feels so much warmer to me.

Your choices are beautiful.

If you like the bronze lighting for the dining room and foyer better, you can always bring the pewter into those rooms with accessories like a pewter tray or vase, or candle stick holders. Metals can mix in that way.

Do you like each finish equally well with your woods?

I agree with jerseygirl -- stick with pewter, and especially don't toss those brass knobs into a kitchen where you have all pewter and stainless steel. To me, it is less important for the dining room and foyer to "match" the kitchen, but since all these fixtures are going to match in style, I would also match the finish.

Squirrel, I think either would look good with my wood furniture which is a warm brown color. a little darker than my flooring.

As far as the brass knobs, I would only use them if I went with the bronze light fixtures, but now after reading the couple replies.. it does sound as though sticking with the pewter and coordinating everything would work well together. Can TOO MUCH of the same thing be okay? If the dining, entry, island and breakfast area all have coordinating fixtures, but then I am also using these coordinating fixtures in the bathrooms. Don't get me wrong.. I really like them all, I just don't know if I am overdoing by using one style/family fixture.

My favorite piece is the pewter island light. I love the pewter and it seems to have warm tones through it as well. I also prefer that set of fixtures because while they relate strongly they do all read a bit differently. To me the dining and foyer lights from your initial pic are more matchy.

The cabinet knobs seem very cool to me and my own preference would be to find some with the same warm tones as the island fixture.

For the first set, is it the medium bronze color on the right (pendant) that you're thinking of? That color would seem to be much the same as your cabinets. ?

Squirrel, you have an eye.. and your right about the fixtures. The bronze set is definitely more matchy, matchy. I think I am leaning now to just doing the pewter, even in the dining room. I do like the dining room fixture, just I had thought I would use shades, but the globes are very nice as well.

Now.. I'll have to look more for knobs, but things are starting to fall into place!

I'm not sure you have to forgoe the shades. I'm thinking you could use a candlestick part with it, even drippy candle covers! and do your shades.

Do you know what type of bulbs/socket is in the pewter chandy? There are socket converters available also.

Your lighting store should be able to tell you if you could swap out the glass shades for the candlestick style.

I am in the same boat as you!!! It is all too much for me. I have to say that I did pick the birdcage hardware for my kitchen but I used the "brushed nickel" color. It went well with my birdcage iron stairails (black). Yes they are different colors but there is enough distance that it doesnt really matter.

squirrel, love your magic! I was wondering if I could put shades on, so thank you for the link! I like the light color shades (i think!) :) then again - my mind never seems to be made up!

I really like its lighter feel with the fabric shades. It really looks much the same as your original selection, don't you think?

I love the Chandy with the shades. I think it breaks up the sameness with the foyer light since the shade is different than the glass shade.

I also think that if you choose you can mix finishes with lighting that has a shiny finish or black in any of the rooms.

One lesson I learned from the designer I am working with is that rooms can be treated differently and should have their individual interest or else it gets boring.

I recently used shiny and brushed chrome in my FR and Kitchen and it works fine. They are 2 rooms that flow together. I will be adding a little gold in my dining room since I have an old antique white mirror with gold trim that I love and would never be without. This is just an example of what I am trying to explain.

Where did you find the pewter fixtures? I think those are some of the prettiest I've seen, and I like them exactly the way they are.

I know I am of no help on this but I just wanted to tell you that I love everyone of your choices. They are all so beautiful. Please let us know what you choose at the end and send in pics.

I seem to remember your kitchen nook as being somewhat small, so I'm thinking go with your gut -- too much :)

As far as breaking things up a bit, you could take an area, like the nook or the dining room, or the kitchen area, or maybe the foyer & nook, and set them apart with something different.

It seems maybe you don't want your space to feel overly organized or matchy and would like some variety, so keep playing!

Maybe take some picture cutouts and lay them on the floor as in a floorplan and see what variety feels good to you as you mentally walk through the house.

Doorknobs: We had a doorknob like that on our front door until our German Shephard figured out how to open the door and let herself out on the street by pushing down the lever (very easy for a dog). We tossed it and replaced it with a round knob.

Door/Drawer handles: If dried up food ends up inside those twisty baskets, how are you going to get it out of there? Will you still love those handles then?

Light Fixtures: Gorgeous choices. Pick the shape you want. Later if you're unhappy with a finish, you can always change it with paint.

I bought a Tiffany type hanging chandelier. I loved the glass but the other parts were shiny brass and looked cheesy. So I took it home and spray painted the brass parts with a bronze spray. It looked GREAT! Nobody ever had the slightest idea that it didn't come that way.

I was recently reading Georgiagal's wonderful blog and somewhere in there she re-painted a fixture too, and she was so creative about how she did it. It came out looking just super.

It's not a hard thing to do. And you could always change it again. But you can't change it back to cheesy brass. ;-)

We completed our home remodel last year and went through a very similar thing. We did mix up finishes a bit, but you need to keep in mind how one choice affects to many others. We did bronze outside (porch lights, landscape lighting, mail box, etc) and nickel/pewter/SS throughout most of the inside with the acception of the formal rooms (living/dining/entry -- which were again bronze/ORB).

Regarding the kitchen knobs, keep in mind that will influence so many other choices in your kitchen--such as your counter top, backspash, etc. As one is in the cool tones and the other the warmer tones. So I'd base my selection of kitchen hardware less on what goes with the whole house--more on what goes best with your granite and backsplash. In the end, we ended up putting in three counter stools with bronze metal frames. I'd have to say it all works mixing up the pewter/SS and bronze. Any other chair frame would not have looked right and I did not want any more wood.

I adore those! They are sooo pretty. I love the their light airy, feminine design. The curves and coloring is gorgeous!

While I prefer the glass and brass details on the first foyer light, I like the graceful sweep of the of the second's metalworking. I think maybe it sets off the curving details of your other fixtures more, even though they're not directly next to each other.

tinker- I was just wondering what you ended up going with on the light fixtures?
